Well the two most sought after QB's will be
Trent Green
and
Matt Hasselback
---Neither of these two need introductions, but FYI (Anyway) Green was supposed to be the Starter last year but was hurt, and Warner turned into a Stud QB, Warner went down this year and he played well in his games, but they Rams have a losing record under Trent.
---Matt is a very promising QB. However he has only truly played in Pre-Season, where he is looking like an ALL-STAR QB, until this year. Matt played against Tampa Bay in Tampa when Brett (Favre) went down with an ankle injury, and he looked good, in his TD pass to Bubba Franks (44 yards) but at the end of the game after a 9 yard pass failed to complete a pass, and looked pretty bad in his reads, and the Packers turned it over needing just one yard, and in effect lost the game.
Well let's look around at all the unrestricted FA's at the end of this year...
Rick Mirer 49ers Quarterback Unrestricted
---Mirer was a great QB in Seattle in his first season, then the coach left, the system changed and he hasn't performed since. He had a stint as the Bears QB, but they didn't want to touch him with a ten foot pole after not too long. He was picked up by the Packers and was the 3rd QB, and saw no snaps at all. The 49ers picked him up out of desperation, but with Jeff Garcia coming out and playing well, he will not see time this year, and will not be re-signed.
Shane Matthews Bears Quarterback Unrestricted
---He is the starter for the Bears now, without McNown, who BTW will be back either this or next week from last I heard. Matthews has been looking decent, but hasn't got the offense moving. M-Rob is struggling and that will hurt his next contract, by making it tougher on him this year. He has however beaten the Bucs according to NFL.com, but we all know that it was the defense. Shane has potential but is in a real bad situation this year. He will become a very good back-up QB next year, and possibly eventually a starter, but don't hold your breath.
Scott Mitchell Bengals Quarterback Unrestricted
---Mitchell is the laughing stock of Detroit. He has had a lot of problems in the past, and he will not win games. He can keep you close, but he is not the QB that wins games, he will keep you close or he will lose it for you completely. Teams, however, trust him still. If you have a strong defense, like the Saints, Dolphins, Eagles, etc. he could work in that system, but he is not an offensive powerhouse QB, as the league witnessed when he had Johnnie Morton, Herman Moore, David Sloan, and Barry Sanders.
Alex Van Pelt Bills Quarterback Unrestricted
---Alex hasn't had any chance to play in Buffalo, with Flutie and Johnson, but when he did play a couple of years ago, he looked decent but noting spectacular. There are GREAT QB's that are very innovative and seem like they can do anything. There are also other QB's that are just the worst thing that can happen to a team, they throw INT's all the time, and have trouble reading blitzes and coverages. Alex is neither of those QB's. He won't win a game for you, but he won't lose it either. Give him a good Defense and an Offense that can at least score 14+ and he can take the team good places.
Gus Frerotte Broncos Quarterback Unrestricted
---Gus' stock is rising every year. Started out in Washington where everyone mostly associates him with, and did decent. The Redskins had other plans for their QB slot than he did, however. They let him go, and he was picked up by the Lions where, after an injury to Batch, he became the starter, and was doing pretty well, until the Lions hit that 7-1 mark, then it was all downhill to a 1-7 finish and a 8-8 record that got them into the playoffs where they probably shouldn't even have gone to the game. This year he has been solid, and winning games with Griese, who's a restricted FA this year, out. He constructed a nice comeback against the Chargers, for what it's worth, and his stock is going to keep rising.
The rest of the list at a later time :)
