Did Notre Dame knock VT out of the BCS or was it Oregon State? With VT #5 in BCS including a stronger schedule than both OSU & ND the fact is that they both knocked VT out. The Fiesta first guaranteed the TV ratings with ND so they had to start worrying about filling up the stands (on the ND opponents half of the stadium) and despite the fact that the Hokies travel well they took OSU who is closer in proximity and out of the local PAC 10.

One other factor that's kind of effed up...if the Fiesta knew it didn't want VT, then why didn't they take potential split national champion Miami to play ND??? This turned out to be the biggest nail in the VT BCS coffer coffin. The Sugar Bowl would have definitely taken VT over southeast/east coast unknown OSU.

Bottom line...the BCS arrangement isn't about college football and pitting the best teams in the country against each other. It's about whom can sell their commercials for the most money and sell the most tickets.

I'm kind of taking a guess, but you guys can correct me if I'm wrong here but I think didn't the Sugar Bowl get to pick teams first and so they took Miami and Florida and the Fiesta was left with the rest so the Fiesta couldn't take Miami here?

I don't know about who being screwed out of what, but I agree with you about how they are too focused on being commericalized. Read a recent SC article here: http://www.sports-central.org/sports/college_football/articles/article54.shtml

My understanding of the BCS process was this: In their non-national championship years the Fiesta gets the Big 12 champ and an at-large while the Sugar gets the SEC champ plus an at-large. Since the Fiesta lost their Big 12 champ, they received the first at-large selection (ND) and since the Fiesta paid more to become part of the BCS, they get the next at-large pick (OSU). The Sugar who retained their SEC champ (UF) and paid less for the BCS rights naturally took Miami.

As a Hokie it sux to see the already rich Domers get the $13M paycheck. As a college football fan it sux to be told that the BCS is good enough to pick the championship match-up but not the remaining BCS bowls.
