View Full Version : Giants Receivers: Worst In Modern Times

Are you aware of the fact that the Giants' wide receivers have only one touchdown catch the entire season? It was by Tim Carter (now on injured reserve) on September 19 against Washington.

Unless the Giant wide receivers somehow catch four against Dallas Sunday night, the Giants will break the record for fewest TD catches by a team's wide receivers in a 16-game season, which is five by several teams, most recently last year's Eagles - and if they don't catch any against the Cowboys, it will be the fewest since the 1945 Steelers went the entire season without throwing a touchdown pass to anybody, a wide receiver or otherwise.

And the Eagles think they have problems with T.O. out!

Chill, Kornby, chill!

If by eventual SB winner Falcons, you're willing to wait till 2010, cool.
The Falcons could win it this year, but I think you'd have to have a lot of falling down on the AFC side of the ball...

The GIants receivers are slow and they drop too many easy catches. That is just basic stuff.

The Giants have some nice role players at wideout, but neither one of them is a game-breaker type that teams need to worry about doubling.

Shockey could be a good one if re-dedicates himself on the game. He has seemed rather disinterested in the couple of games I have seen the Giants play this year and he seems to drop passes due to lack of concentration.

I've also heard it on Monday Night Football when the players announce themselves. Another popular announcement is for them to clue the viewers in on what high school they attended. I could care less. The group of guys I get together and watch MNF with has a nice bet on the issue. The guy closest to the number of players (by number) that announce their high school eats/drinks for free.

I thought the "few" guys who only said high school meant that they never went to College. ? They just came in as a walk on or something?

Nah, as far as I know Eric Swann is the only guy to never play college football and make it to the pros in recent memory. I am sure there were some way back in the day that did not play college ball, but since the league has the rule that you have to be 3 years removed from high school anybody with any kind of ability plays college ball of some sort. I suspect they are saying their high school because they are trying to be cute. One guy even said his elementary school on MNF a couple of weeks ago.

Micheal Irvin is the first guy I heard talkng about DA U on ESPN.

Well this post I am about to submit could also go in the Lounge under "Our dirty little sports secrets".

Until 1993 I was a Hurricane Fan, I moved to Tallahassee in 1991 with a girl friend that attended Florida State. In 1992 the Noles grew on me and after the Florida State lose to Miami I decided next year, 1993 I would be a Florida State Fan and have been ever since.

I know this is off-topic but Gainsville, UF Gators is a much better place to party or it was sometime ago.

You're right, MaddEnemy, it is off-topic - like totally!

But back on topic - I guess you can add the Giants to the list of contenders in next spring's free-agent wide-receiver derby, right up there with the Ravens, Chargers, Chiefs and, unless they do reach the Super Bowl (and maybe even if they do make it), the Eagles.

Jerry Porter and Plaxico Burress figure to be the top two prizes (not necessarily in that order), with the minor awards being represented by the likes of T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Corey Bradford, Andre Davis and David Patten, and for those teams that are willing to ignore age and past injuries, Joey Galloway and Muhsin Muhammad (although Muhammad's status is not entirely clear at this point).

At any rate, none of these teams will have any excuse for coming away empty-handed. If you need a wide receiver, 2005 is your year - at least in free agency anyway.

M and M might be a huge pickup for a team next year. He is having an awesome year
