Post your thoughts and opinions. It's quite the hot topic around baseball. Bet they didn't think it would be.

The way i see it, they won the World Series as Red Sox, so why is it such a big deal that they accept their ring as a Red Sox.

I agree with Tommy Lasorda. He said (according to John Kruk of Baseball Tonight) that it isn't really a big deal if they accept their rings wearing last year's jerseys just like the guys that retire and come back to get their rings do. They earned them as members of that team and have the right to accept them as they wish (or not, as is the case with Pedro). Both teams gave the players their approval to go to Boston to get the rings, so why not?

Hear, hear. Their new teams didn't have a problem, so why should we?

No one cares, because they now play for the Padres and the Dodgers. Had Lowe gone to pitch for the Yankees, there is no way he'd be back at Fenway with a rivals jersey on.
I personally thought it was a little weird. Just to take this into a soccer connection. Had this happened say in the Premiership, the players in question would have been ripped to shreads by their new teams supporters. Paul Ince during his early career with West Ham United, was hated for ever more by the West Ham faithful for being pictured in Man United shirt just before being transfered to them.
They should not have worn the jerseys or any sort of Red Sox insignia for that matter. Last season is last season, it doesn't matter if they were honoring last season, it is 2005 and both are under contract with a different organization. If I were a Dodger or Padre executive, player, fan, etc. I would be pissed at Lowe or Roberts, they play for my organization and I want them representing the team, not their previous club. If either felt it neccesary to wear something baseball related it should have been a been a cap of their current club.

NO.
I agree with Pimpbots soccer take. These guys now are paid by different teams and if I was a fan of one of those teams I'd be pissed about it.
They should have worn a suit.

That's my own opinion. I'm well awhere that the Dodgers and Padres said they could.

No big deal. Even the Yankees toe'd the line to show their respect for what the Sox did. Being apart of a WS championship team doesn't happen often. They were part of that team winning. Also, the teams gave their "o.k.". So what's the big deal?
I'm torn on this one. If I were a teammate on their current teams, I would be pissed to see them wearing another team's jersey. It's like adultery. But at the same time, they deserve their rings and to be honored for their past efforts. I would have liked to see them go back and receive their rings without wearing the Red Sox jersey.

It's only because Boston hadn't won in 86 years, that ppl are going gaga-Tea-Party. Act like you've been there before. (I mean seriously, I've heard people who strongly dislike the Yankees - but said had they known this hoopla was to occur - they would've *ALMOST* rooted for the Yankees. I did say *almost* though)
I guess Sox fans don't feel so confident that they'll get to experience this for another 86 years...or what?
If he was now a Yankee - no way. Remember bitterness Sox fans felt when Clemens won his two rings on the Bronx? And the Rocket, at the time, won 194/300 games in Boston. That's almost 2/3. And yet even though Boston would like to think of him as her son...he's declared to be a Yankee. For a long while, it was hard for Bostonians to see their players leave to win rings in NY. *ahem* WADE BOGGS.
Also, Lowe had the permission of management - they *wanted* him to go...so long as it's ok with the front office and the clubhouse, it's not a big deal. Dodger fans, you're team roster shuffles around all the time. How does it feel to lose Delgado? (sorry)
If this was the Giants however...I'm sure the Dodger front office would have been less than compliant.
But I think the long that really tripped Dodger fans' trigger was that Lowe reportedly told Varitek that ooooh he's soooo lucky to be here. Now, maybe he was just saying that in the moment...because he's had less than glowing things to say about Boston's management letting him go - but look, you've got your ring and SERIOUSLY, let's move on. You can make a case that he's celebrating *last* year, but this is harder to swallow if I was a Dodger fan. We're paying couple mil per year...for you to yearn to be in red??
As a general note, for 86 years Red Sox dwelled on the curse and they kept losing. But if they dwell on their one victory all year, every year - it just might take another 86 years for them to win another one.
