Should golf be an Olympic event (cbc.ca) ? (http://cbc.ca/cgi-bin/templates/sportsView.cgi?/news/2001/05/16/Sports/golf010516)

That would be awesome if it were!!... Plus, they'd allow the pros from the PGA to play in it, just like the NBA'ers and NHL'ers!

...what would be even more awesome is that it would be an event for 2008, meaning that Toronto could host it!!!... (home country...).... but if Bejjing (sp?) gets it...well, are there courses in China!? :)

One question -- how would they work the medalling???... maybe have a 4-round tourney... and then the top 3 or 5 or something go to a playoff to determine medalists???... or just a 4-round tourney and have ties silver & bronze if that happens?....

I think it should definitely be an event.

As for medaling, I'm not sure. Would it be a country vs. country thing? In that case, you could just have a bracket tournament of 4 somes based upon World Rankings.

I agree.

Would be a good thing for the Olympics.

I like that smilie. :) But, you REALLY should make the height of it smaller (too much blank space).

Why would it need to be part of the olympics ? Just watch the Ryder Cup to see the two big tours go head to head (America vs. Europe). Those are the only really two big tours..as far as I'm aware.

Honestly, I don't give a hoot about the Ryder Cup!...

The Olympics is on the world stage... it would definitley be a positive boost for golf... I mean, I don't care how Europe or "America" does in the Ryder Cup!... I would rather see my favorite golfers from Canada (Weir, Morland, Ames, etc.) compete against golfers from Spain or the States or something...

Am I missing something, or don't do that just about every week? The PGA Tour isn't just Americans..wasn't Weird playing in the Masters? Along with plenty other people from all over the world..?

...what I mean is, that for a period of two weeks every four years, the whole WORLD is watching the Olympics.... I mean, I doubt many people from Beijing (sp?) were watching the Masters this past April, but if it turned out that they hosted the Olympics, they, along with many, many other fans from around the world....

I guess if there were a single competition, it wouldn't be much of a change, except the fact that golfers would be playing for a gold, silver, and bronze medal instead of $1 million, $500,000, and $400,000 dollars... but what if there were team competitions... Canada vs. Spain... that's what I'm talking about....

I do watch the Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup.

But, I believe golf in the Olympics would be something special and fun to watch.

Country vs. Country - We don't do that now, and it would be cool to watch.
