Bad decision. Golf is a sport. If an athlete cannot participate because of physical limitations such as disabilities, that's too bad - he or she shouldn't be able to play. You cannot go around bending the rules for anyone who can't meet the requirements in the first place.

I have nothing against Martin, but I disagree with the decision.

(*sigh* Here we go again!)

You can simply not blame Casey Martin for having a disability. However, people will now try to get riding privileges with hardly anything wrong. On another ground, I feel the same as Mike James that you should not change the requirements of the game to let in someone who did not qualify originally. One half of me says to let him ride, and the other half tells me the opposite, as both sides have valid arguments. I am split straight down the middle.

Well, first of all... its not about Casey Martin. He's a good guy and I'd like him to play.

But, you must consider every human on the same level. And the way golf is played, each person may not ride a cart. That must apply to Casey Martin.

I think this was the wrong decision... like Hal Sutton said (more or less.. forget the exact wording... forget the exact ages he used, too...), "After the fourth round, I feel a lot more tired now at age 40 than at age 29, and I think that's due to fatigue, from walking."

It's not fair... I don't care how good you can swing a golf club, but this should NOT be allowed.... Martin said that other tours (qualifying, senior, etc.) allows golfers to use the cart... why not on the PGA?

WHY NOT!? -- this is the HIGHEST LEVEL of golf anyone can POSSIBLY PLAY... that's why... on no other tour is there a grand prize of between $300,000 or $500,000 to $1,000,000..... none.... so if you want to PLAY with the best, you have to play under the same RULES as the best....

Big deal - Casey Martin rides in a cart.
Wow.
Have you EVER heard a commentator say, "Hey look at Nick Faldo walkin. He's walkin strong today".
No, you don't care how a golfer walks, do you.
It doesn't enter into the scorecard, does it.
Most importantly, most of you lazy farts would rather RIDE than walk. There are lots of courses that won't even LET you walk!

So what's the deal . . .

I would ask that you use a little courtesy in your posts. I'm not sure which 'lazy farts' you're talking about but as often as I play golf I will only ride in a cart once in maybe 20 or 30 rounds.

Carts were introduced as a convenience, they were never part of the game itself. If you understand this you might understand why some people are against the ruling.

Ravi, if in fact you DO ride in a golf cart once every 20 or 30 rounds, then you are not "playing golf" during such times, are you.
Tsk, tsk.

All of you people who ride in carts - listen up.
You're not really "playing golf". REAL golfers HAVE TO WALK!

Nice walk, Ravi. Really. You're walkin' the walk. The "Golf Walk".

Then what am I playing? Fake golf? Give me a break, you're not doing yourself justice by posting such silly comments.

Well, that's about what I do, too (use a cart once every 20 rounds) because I, honestly, am not that great of a golfer so the main reason I go is to walk 6,500 yards and get exercise.... if I didn't golf, I wouldn't get any exercise in the summer. :D

All right, I'll "give you a break".
YOU can ride in a cart and call that "golf", but Casey Martin can't ride in a cart and play golf.

I applaud your honesty and integrity, sir.
You are doing yourself a "great justice" thereby.

Tennis, anyone?
