1.Pittsburgh Steelers-(1-0)-The Steelers started the
season with a big win over the Miami Dolphins 28-17 in
Pittsburgh. Backup QB Charlie Batch improved to 3-0
as a starter for the Steelers. Batch threw for three
touchdowns. RB Willie Parker proved himself by running
for 115 yards on 29 carries. Parker ran for 1,202 yards in 2005. Should improve upon that. TE Heath Miller had a big
game with 101 yards in receiving. Linebacker Joey Porter had two sacks on the night. Next game Sept. 18th
against Jacksonville in Jacksonville.
2.Indianapolis Colts-(1-0)-QB Peyton Manning showed his
little brother up by beating him and the NY Giants
26-21 in NY. Manning was as accurate as ever. He threw
for 276 yards while completing 25 of 41 passes and
tossing one touchdown. WR Marvin Harrison caught nine
passes for 113 yards. Former Patriots kicker Adam Vinatieri was
excellent as usual kicking four field goals and two
extra points. Safety Bob Sanders led the Colts defense
with eight tackles. Next game Sept 17th against
Houston in Indianapolis.
3.Cincinnati Bengals-(1-0)-The Bengals won a tough
game on the road against the Kansas City Chiefs 23-10.
QB Carson Palmer didn't look that sharp, but at least
his knee held up. Palmer completed 13 of 19 for 127
yards. RB Rudi Johnson gained 96 yards on 28 carries.
As for the defens,e DE Justin Smith had three sacks in
the game and DE Robert Geathers had two. As a whole
the defense had seven sacks on the day. They even
knocked Chiefs QB Trent Green out of the game with a
concussion. Next game Sept. 17th against Cleveland in
Cincinnati.
4.Philadelphia Eagles-(1-0)-The Eagles defeated
Houston 24-10 in Houston. Good tune up game for the
Eagles. QB Donovan McNabb looked sharp as he threw for
314 yards while completing 24 of 35 and throwing three
touchdowns. Terrell who?
WR Donte Stallworth looked like a seasoned veteran by catching
six passes for 141 yards and one TD. LB Jeremiah
Trotter led the defense with nine tackles. Next game
Sept. 17th against the NY Giants in Philadelphia
5.Jacksonville Jaquars-The Jags beat Dallas 24-17 in
Jacksonville. QB Byron Leftwich completed 23 of 34 for
237 yards and one Touchdown. RB Fred Taylor rushed for
74 yards on 21 carries and scored one touchdown.
Taylor had 115 combined yards on the day. Defense
intercepted Dallas' Drew Bledsoe three times during
the game. Jags DE Reggie Hayward tore his achilles
tendon during the game and is lost for the season.
Next game Sept. 18th against Pittsburgh in
Jacksonville.
6.San Diego Chargers-(1-0)-San Diego shutout Oakland
27-0 in Oakland on Monday Night Football. RB LaDanian
Tomlinson ruled the night. Tomlinson rushed for 131
yards on 31 carries scoring one touchdown. In his
first NFL start QB Philip Rivers spend most of the
night handing off to Tomlinson. Rivers completed eight
of 11 passes for 108 yards with one touchdown.
The Chargers defense shined with DE Shawne Merrimam
leading the charge. Merriman had three sacks on the
night. The rest of the defense had six all together.
This win was the sixth straight for the Chargers over
Oakland. Next game Sept. 17th against Tennessee in SD.
7.Atlanta Falcons-(1-0)-The Falcons beat Carolina 20-6
in Carolina. Great start for the Falcons. RB Warrick
Dunn was on cruise control all day. Rushing for 132
yards on 29 carries. Rookie RB Jerrius Norwood out of
Mississippi State rushed for 66 yards. He's going to be a good one in the near future. QB Michael Vick
threw for 140 yards and tossed two touchdowns. He also
ran for 48 yards on the day. WR Michael Jenkins scored
on a 34 yard pass from Vick. DE John Abraham led the
defense with two sacks. Next game Sept. 17th against Tampa Bay in Atlanta.
8.New England-(1-0)-The Pats came from behind and beat
Buffalo 19-17. With 8:33 left in the game the Pats DT
Ty Warren trapped Bills QB J.P.Losman in the end zone
to give his team a safety and the win. QB Tom Brady
completed 11 of 23 for 163 yards and two touchdowns.
Rookie RB Lawrence Maroney out of Minnesota rushed for
86 yards, but scored no touchdowns. He looked very
impressive overall. Next game Sept. 17th against the
NY Jets in New York.
9.Chicago Bears-The Bears blanked Green Bay 27-0 in
Green Bay. First time Packers QB Brett Favre has been
shutout in his long career. Chicago QB Rex Grossman
played a great game completing 18 of 26 for 262 yards
and one touchdowns. Grossman threw a 49 yard touchdown
pass on the opening drive to Bernard Berrian. WR
Mushin Muhammad caught six passes for 102 yards.
Linebacker Lance Briggs had nine tackles on the day
with one sack for the Bears. Next game Sept. 17th
against Detroit in Chicago.
10.Seattle Seahawks-(1-0)-The Seahawks beat Detroit in
a tight one 9-6 in Detroit. This was the same field
that Seattle lost to Pittsburgh in the Super Bowl.
Kicker Josh Brown kicked a 42-yarder on the last play
of the game to give Seattle the win. QB Matt
Hasselbeck was harrassed all day by the Detroit
defense. He was sacked five times. Yet he still
completed 25 of 30 passes for 210 yards. Sensational
RB Shaun Alexander of the Seahawks ran for just 51
yards on 19 carries. Cornerback Kelly Herndon led the
defense with eight tackles. Next game Sept 17th
against Arizona in Seattle.
