Apparently Randy Johnson has a herniated disc and his back and took an epidural shot for the pain which puts his season in jeopardy:

If Johnson is out that pushes Cory Lidle and Jaret Wright up a spot in the rotation which I cannot imagine is too terribly preferrable.

He's had that problem most of the season. It just got to the point where he couldn't take the pain anymore. If he does get relief from the shot he had today, he should be OK to pitch a few innings in the ALDS. The decision is up to Torre and Cashman.

It sounds like Randy Johnson will have back surgery this off-season to repair the disc problems that have plagued him the past couple of seasons. Quite a health risk for the Yankees. Do they go out and find a lefty to replace him? There was a time when they would just call Zito's agent and ask "How much?", sign him to a 5 year contract and run him out there every 5th day. Now, with the economics of baseball hitting even King George in the wallet, they do not have that option.
