The Cardinals built a big lead in the NL Central and struggled through September, nearly losing their lead. They held on and made it to the playoffs. It looked like someone flipped the switch and they were back to life, beating the Padres.
The Mets were in cruise control nearly all season winning the NL East handily. Toward the end of the season, they got some very bad news from their pitchers, losing the top 2 for the season, but they were able to take care of business in the NLDS against the Dodgers.
Who wins this series?

I think the Mets bats will be too much for the Cards to overcome so I'm going with the Mets in this one.

I am hoping my Redbirds make a series out of this, but I won't be at all surprised if the Mets win this one without too much trouble. The Pads series did not surprise too terribly much as it had setup for Carpenter to go twice in the first four games and I felt fairly confident they would win those two without too much trouble.

I just don't trust Jeff Weaver to have another game like he did against the Pads and LaRussa's love of running the same mediocre arms out of the bullpen will cost them a game or two in this series.

Mets are playing Pujols alright so far (^4th)... not giving him much to swing at! This series is coming down to bullpens.

Wow, Jeff Weaver has now strung together two quality starts in the postseason.

I have to wonder what Willie Randolph was thinking putting Cliff Floyd on the LCS roster let alone letting him play. Crikey, I think I can walk faster than Floyd could run last night. It is not like he had an exceptional season with the stick and with the bad wheel he is even more of a defensive liability than he ever was.

Putting Cliff Floyd on the LCS roster may be the worst decision Randolph has made in his career. He was not ready to play and likely won't be ready to do so this series.

With Oliver Perez going for the Mets against Anthony Reyes on Sunday, it looks like the Mets may be in trouble. They may be able to take the games back to New York with Glavine going on Monday, but then again, maybe not.

Which leaves them a man down in a series where bullpens and bench players are playing a huge role in the outcome of the series thus far. If I am Randolph I make Floyd prove to me that he can actually run before even considering him for the LCS Roster.

I said at the beginning of the Division Series that the Mets were going to be in trouble if they were left relying on guys like Trachsel, John Maine, and/or Oliver Perez to win big games for them in the playoffs.

I am not sure how much it really matters though as the Tigers are just shutting everyone down right now.

Looks like the Mets are in trouble after losing last night's game. Weaver finally pitched a solid game overall. Game 5 starters are Chris Carpenter & John Maine. I'm hoping the Cards can close it out tonight...

I can't believe I am saying this but I actually hope the Cards do hang onto Jeff Weaver next year. The Cards would not be in position to advance to the Series without him.

The Mets and Cardinals will face off tomorrow night for all the opportunity to get swept by the well-rested Tigers. Which team wants it more? Which team is more nervous? Can Suppan handle the Mets' bats again?
We'll know tomorrow night.

I happen to agree with you doublee. Weaver has settled down a bit and has reverted to the form he showed in Detroit, before the bright lights of Broadway and Hollywood got into his head. He needs a smaller market where the media scrutiny is a bit less intense and St. Louis may be just the place for him.
