An interesting post over at ArmchairGM looking at how it would play out...

The BCS is, for many, the bane of the college football season. Nevermind the fact that your school was awarded its only loss on a terrible officiating call -- that one faux pas means a trip to the Chuck's Diner and Car Wash Bowl. 'Tis a silly thing, leaving the masses clammoring for an NFL-style playoff.

But that's boring. What if NFL fans started their own uproar, and asked for -- nay, demanded a BCS-style system for the 32 pro teams? What would happen?

Well, let's find out.

This must be destroyed at once and nobody should ever know of this.

Well in a sense, the NFL actually does use a crude version of the BCS in determining priority for multiple waiver claims after the third week of the season: Teams with the same record are ranked on the basis of strength of schedule, and if any ties still exist, they are broken by the division tie-breakers if the tied teams are from the same division, the wild-card tie-breakers if they're from different divisions but from the same conference, and by a coin toss if they're not in the same conference (prior to the completion of Week 3 the previous spring's first-round draft order, determined by the exact same format, is observed, except that the Super Bowl champion and runner-up are always last and next-to-last, respectively).

Indeed, I have adapted this procedure to determine the five tie-breaker games each week in the NFL Pointspread Contest.

Time to stir the pot I guess....

This just proves how bad this ranking system is IMO. Two CPU's (3 & 6) have the Texans ranked 32nd. Now, is there a doubt in anyone's mind that Oakland is NOT the worst team in the NFL after week 6???

Oakland ranks 8th in the league in total defense - maybe that has something to do with the Raiders not being last.

thank you; exactly why these rankings are BS

 Exactly. Anything that has BCS attached to it is a farce.

I'd call it college football.

If the NFL used the BCS...

...the Kansas City Chiefs would still be sitting at home watching other teams play in the postseason.
