View Full Version : Bob Barker Retiring After 50 Years on TV
http://apnews.myway.com//article/20061101/D8L3VK2O2.html
He seemed to be invincible and kept that damn show stuck in '70s styling going on and on, but now Bob Barker is finally retiring. I grew up watching this man off and on ... especially those lazy summer days in high school when there was nothing else on. Any way you put it, legends like this don't come along often, so props to Bob for all these years. And who could forget this message about pets at the end of each show!
And you will certainly enjoy this: http://youtube.com/watch?v=odTKBAds1YE ;)
And speaking of old guys on TV, Dick Clark is going New Year's Eve again. Look, I appreciate the man and all, but it was very painful and uncomfortable to see him struggle to speak last year. I think it's time he pass the torch...

I always saw myself takign over for Bob Barker... maybe it's time to make the dream come true!
Marc - classic "summer days", cuz that's exactly when I'd watch the show!

My roommate my freshman year of college watched The Price is Right religiously throughout the week.
Once a week, we would both venture a guess on that day's showcase showdown and whoever was the loser between the two of us would have to buy the other person dinner that night (small-town entertainment, huh?).
Ten times out of ten, he would end up losing.
It never made sense to me how the biggest fan of the show that I have ever met, couldn't ever get close to correctly picking the price on the showcase showdown.
A year later, he and his girlfriend traveled west to California to attend a taping of The Price is Right. His girlfriend got picked out of the crowd.
She ended up winning a brand new car, a trip to Paris, and the entire showcase showdown.
Winning a free meal from Burger King now sort of pales in comparison.

This seems like the best thread to mention my favorite game is the Mountain-Climber game. That's right! Not Plinko!
Best wishes, Bob. I will always associate you with being home sick from school.

About 4 years ago when I was in L.A. we took my nephew to a taping in Hollywood. The security guy at the gate told us Barker was sick and the show was cancelled. Actually I think he had a leg injury. Whatever.
Talk about being pissed off. There's nothing to do at 7am in Hollywood unless you're up for hookers.

Bob is finally hanging up his pimp robe? heh :-) Three things I'm going to remember him for
1)Sleeping with all the models
2)Reminding People to Neuter their animals
3)Price-is-Right
Yes, and in that order
1)Sleeping with all the models
Haha. The ladies always loved him. Even today, college girls come on the show with t-shirts about him. He's the Hugh Hefner of game shows. Speaking of Hef, I read he's no longer interested in sex. He'd rather play board games. Talk about a waste of resources! :D

All good things must come to an end. Will this be the end of the last of the daytime game shows? When I was a kid, all that was on in the morning were game shows and soap operas. Now, its mostly talk shows. How TV has fallen.

I don't think so. I read a quote from Barker when he announced his retirement that they have been looking for someone to replace him for a couple of years now. So, it sounds like they intend on keeping the show on the air. I cannot imagine why they would end the show as long as folks are still watching. My guess is they have someone in line to take over and it will be announced closer to the time that Barker is stepping aside.

There was some talk around work about this and I heard a name mentioned as a likely replacement, but I do not recall who it was. I believe it was a man, not a lady, however, so the show should go on pretty much as it has.
Lets see if this new guy lasts 50 years.

The rumored replacement to Barker is Dave Price, the weatherman on CBS' The Early Show.

You know now that you mention it. Has there ever been a female to host a high profile game show? I can't remember it ever happening.

There probably has been but we all can't remember cuz we spent the whole show staring at her boobs.

There's one news anchor locally who I think is pretty hot and I always make comments about her when the news is on.
The wife doesn't even look up from what she is doing Tark. I get the "that's nice" retort and back to ignore. Marriage does get less complicated as you get older...thank God.

Anne Robinson hosted The Weakest Link, although I don't think anyone was staring at her breasts.
Goodbye.

I'd have to agree with that. Her sarcasm and wit were enough to keep most people interested. She is good, for that show.
