Akron head coach J.D. Brookhart has signed a new five-year contract to stay in the Rubber City thru 2010.

I'm mixed on the deal. Brookhart had great success in 2005 by leading the Zips to the MAC crown but this year has been a disappointment (esp. with all the returning players). They are currenlty 4-5 but were expected to do much better. I guess when you consider the history of Akron football any success is greatly appreciated.

The timing is indeed weird. But, I guess I'm happy with it, he did get the Zips their first football championship in their history. But this season has indeed been disappointing. Thanks to Kent stumbling, though, Akron still has a (very remote) chance of winning the MAC East if they can win out (including beating Ohio and Western Michigan on the road), Kent continues to stumble, and Western Michigan beats Ohio. All that is not going to happen, but...
