View Full Version : McCarney Out at Iowa State?
Dan McCarney Finished After 12 Years at Iowa State? (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/football/ncaa/11/08/mccarney.meeting.ap/index.html)
Tough situation for Iowa State. They're not exactly a football powerhouse but the program seems to have maxed out under McCarney at about 6-7 wins a season. A change probably dooms Iowa State for a couple more years but could benefit them in the long run.

This is kind of surprising considering the program's history. McCarney was the best coach there since Earl Bruce in the late 70s.
ISU did beat Iowa a few times and was able to post 7-5 seasons on a regular basis.
I don't like this move. Seems to me ISU believes they are a 9-10 win program in the Big Twelve. Well I got news for 'em: they ain't.

They also shouldn't be an 0-6 team in the Big XII, either.
I disagree with any decision to let McCarney go, but I went to Ames last weekend and that team has simply packed things in for the season. I don't doubt for a second that they could get beat by Colorado this weekend.

And it appears you are right on all counts, Toby. ISU has thrown in the towel. Who takes the reins next season?
On a personal note, I have known Dan for 30+ years. He is a really nice guy that should hook up with someone that needs a good defensive line coach. That is his specialty.

ISU threw in the towel cuz their coach got jobbed. Big mistake by ISU.

Good win for them to go out on today. I feel bad for McCarney as I know nothing but positive things about him. I think more than anything, Iowa State needs a shakeup in their conservative play calling. They have one of the best receivers in the country that nobody will ever hear about.
