Im a tigers fan and i love it
sure sheffield is old but his bat is still as good as ever, we will just play him at DH and he should put up good rbi numbers
sanchez was our best prospect in the minors this year until he got hurt in mid-late summer and was shelved for the rest of the year
whelan was a high pick, we had high hopes for him, and he did pretty good this year but he was taking too long to get up
claggett i know nothing about but he had good numbers so it looks like the yankees got what they needed(young pitching) and we got what we needed(a power bat)

Talk today was put him right... since Ordornez sucks at RF.... Sheff still has the arm.

Claggett is a very raw prospect that will need some coaching to make it to the bigs. The Yankees got some very good talent for Sheff.
Sheff will likely be the primary DH for the Tigers in 2007. He'll give Maggs and Monroe days off when they need them
By the way Mikey, my wife is also a Tigers' fan. Welcome to the baseball board.

Great deal for the Tigers, sounds like a good deal for the Yanks too (they had plenty of OFs and DHs with Melky's emergence). If Sheff stays healthy (huge IF) he might be dominant-- after a slow start pre-injury, he finished very strong. Plus, he's a confident guy on a team that could use some confidence right now after that WS meltdown

The Yankees got what they need to a degree, but they still need pitching that can step in and help today not two or three years down the road and Sanchez is damaged goods after being shutdown with an elbow injury.

Ultimately, though, the Tigers did not give up their tip top pitching prospect. Sanchez was probably considered their top guy in the minors until they got their paws on Andrew Miller. He is their top pitching prospect.

It is a nice pickup for the Tigers though as they need a guy they can stick in the 3/4 slot who, when healthy, can give them .300/30+/100+.

In the end the Yankees probably got about as good as they were going to get by acquiring a guy who is considered a top pitching prospect.
