Good move by ISU. I was critical of them for firing McCarney but this is a solid coach to replace him with.

Very good hiring. It was only a matter of time until Chizik got a head gig. The only thing Iowa State needs to worry about is that if Chizik puts together a couple of good seasons, he'll jump to a bigger program.

I wonder why Gene didn't wait out and explore all his options first?

I don't know what options he would have had...or are going to materialize. He can't get in Miami...not enough cred. Bama? Not one of them. He went to another squad within his conference...seems right. The two jobs in the Midwest (MSU, Cincy...which is temporary) went to Tressel disciples. ASU is probably goin' to a Pac Ten guy.

I think this is a great thing for everybody involved. ISU gets some new blood, and what I think will be a very talented coach. Chizik will have tons of support, time, money, and the opportunity to fully turn that program around.
