View Full Version : Venus to retire?
Big surprise, Richard Williams is back in the news stirring up controversy. He says he doubts Venus will have a long tennis career (http://www.sportsline.com/u/ce/multi/0,1329,4066700_7,00.html). That idea is ludicrous, Venus is only what, 21?
"I don't think she'll be around for a very long time," he said. "I doubt it will be a long career for her.
"She can make a lot more money out of (tennis) rather than in tennis."
That may be true right now, but correct me if I'm wrong, doesn't she get all those endorsements from tennis? If she quits tennis prematurely, no one will want to endorse her! Thoughts? Comments?
Richard Williams is just trying to fire Venus up and/or be biased toward Serena, like he always is.

I think Richard is bad for the game of tennis. I think he needs to shut up and get out of the tennis spot light and let his daughters play their games...

I think he created his daughters so anyone who says anything about him needs to shut up and get out of the spotlight. lol :D
Anyhow, he's probably just trying to fire her up. He says a lot of off the wall stuff, as you know. :uhoh:

that's buls***, it's not his decision....he needs to shut up and just watch the game, he shouldn't say anything bad about his kids in public.
Richard "announced" his daughters' retirement last year, but Venus came out to say she had no plans to retire and expected to play for a long time. He just likes to keep everyone guessing.

Yeah, either that or he likes the spotlight and attention on his girls.

I think you're right on it Marc...
It's good for the game. The Williams family and their activities have gotten a lot more people interested in tennis. Even Davenport admitted to that.
