Interesting story pulled from ESPN.com (http://sports.espn.go.com/golf/story?id=1224749):
Appearance fee for Woods sends prices soaring

Associated Press

WELLINGTON, New Zealand -- Michael Campbell is threatening to boycott the New Zealand Open because ticket prices have soared as organizers bid to recoup $2 million in appearance money demanded by Tiger Woods.

New Zealand's top golfer was reported Wednesday to be disgusted over the $205 price of a weeklong spectator ticket, as is fellow Kiwi Greg Turner.

A weeklong pass last year cost $20.50.

Turner said the suggested prices were a "gross insult" to local fans.
Thought this was worth posting. Goes to show how much having Tiger there can drive up prices. His presence really makes or breaks a tournament's popularity. But boycotting? Please.

For a WEEK long pass??? That is a bargain I think. The thing is... the sponsors don't CARE if he boycotts. They want to get Tiger, I think that much is known. :D

Well.... this event is in the golf offseason (January 10 to 13).

For 4 days of golf..... $20.50 is a REALLY cheap price ... I think the price SHOULD be higher.... but going to a price of $205 is a 1,000 per cent increase!

...that's what the price of a golf event probably SHOULD be, but that's not a well-known event and besides Tiger Woods, none of the world's top 10 or 20 players will be there.

I can see Campbell's POV, too.... I mean, Woods is getting paid before he plays... meanwhile, he's the defending champ and gets NOTHING unless he performs.

I think this goes back to the old saying, "You get what you pay for." When you pay $20.50 you shouldn't expect much.
