Tonight's the Home Run Derby, with Bonds noticeably absent. Is anyone excited about this? It's gone the way of the NBA Slam Dunk Contest, IMO. Get ready for three hours of Chris Berman saying "back back back gone!"

Can't say that I am excited. Seems to get more and more boring as I age.

And every National League fan that might have wanted to see their team get home field in the World Series is likely questioning why Tony LaRussa did not pinch hit with Albert Pujols in the bottom of the 9th. Can't understand that one...I love the Phillies and all, but, uh, yank Rowand and put Pujols in.

I don't disagree there. Pujols is too good to sit on the bench for the entire game. Curious move.

I guess Albert wasn't to happy about the decision either.

Pujols' Comments (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/allstar07/news/story?id=2932400)

SAN FRANCISCO -- Albert Pujols was angry about being left on the All-Star bench and the St. Louis slugger took aim at the National League manager -- who just happened to be Tony La Russa of his own Cardinals.

It's the All-Star Game. He can do what he wants," Pujols said Tuesday night. "He does whatever he wants. If I wasn't expecting to play, I wouldn't have come up here."

Pujols, the NL MVP in 2005 and key to the Cardinals' win in the World Series last year, said La Russa didn't talk to him the entire game.

Pujols could only watch when Aaron Rowand flied out with the bases loaded to end the American League's 5-4 win.

"If he wants to get upset, he can get upset," La Russa said. "Whatever he wants to do, he can do. It's America. That wasn't the most important thing tonight." - ESPN

I love the Homerun Derby. I was hoping Prince Fielder would win.

Leaving Pujols on the bench is a perfect example of why this game shouldn't count for home field advantage. La Russa would have made that switch 100 out of 100 times if Rowand was on the Cardinals & it was them playing instead of the All Stars.

Oz, you are likely right. I cannot explain this move. It was very curious.
By the way, welcome to the boards.
