View Full Version : Grant Hill
Did anyone hear ESPN radio a few weeks ago when they ranble about Grant Hill and what he cost the Orlando Magic in dollars. The regular host was off on vacation and I can't recall who filled in, but the segment was about Hills lack of playing time due to injurys. Get this. he said last year alone with the contract he had, with the amout of time he played (and it wasn't mucjh cause of rehap and injurys) that when played in a game, it figured out to be $476,000.00 PER GAME. Almost half a million dollars per game. It went on to say that he doesn't think Grant Hill is crooked or anything, but as far as Orlando is concern, it had to be the worse contract (for what they got in return) in NBA history. I found this interesting and wanted to share.

Yea, this one sure didn't shake out like the Magic wanted but I can see what their wish was. Hill has always been not only a talented player but a good team player & team leader...
A risk that definitely is fodder for the hindsight crowd but with what the Magic has had to work with for quite some time, still not an easy critique IMO except after the fact...
Plus, lost in all of this was the stability of just having him around. Sure, not worth the ultimate money but just a point that it wasn't completely fruitless...

I don't know about it being the worst in league history. If I am not mistaken Jamal Mashburn and Larry Johnson both collected over $20 million dollars despite never stepping foot on a court over the last couple years of their contracts. Alan Houston got a $20 mil buyout from the Knicks because he was not going to be able to play any more.
Steve Francis is going to get $30 mil from the Blazers just to go away and play for someone else.

Good examples, Doublee...especially Mashburn & LJ...

Off topic but anyone else find it a bit disturbing that Phoenix brought Grant Hill in?
You need mental toughess/physical play and you bring Grant Hill in.

I don't know, they don't have any cap space to go out and sign anyone significant and they are only paying him the league minimum so it is not as though they are taking a huge risk by signing him.

I guess indifference is the best route here. :D
I see that but it does nothing as far as mental toughness goes.

It may also speak to the legitimacy of the rumors of Phoenix trying to move a guy like Shawn Marion or Boris Diaw for some draft picks.

Marion is too high-quality to merely get picks for. I say that and I'm not nearly as high on him as most of the media IMO.
Diaw is gettin' up there in age. I could see that.
