Chicago Tribune is reporting he's made an official offer.

What a loser. Hopefully the Cubs don't bite on his gimmicks.

I think he would be a great owner.

NO, NO, NO....
I don't want Baby Steinbrenner in diapers running the Cubs. I've put up with enough crap with this team & he's not even the last choice with me...
If he gets this team, you can forward my mail to the old oak tree...

Between the Kobe to Bulls rumors and this Tark...I'm thinkin' you musta done something horrible in your previous life.
Doesn't shock me to see the media fawn all over him in this story...as they have. That's their schtick: hype over substance.
It's funny though. The Cubs already have a schtick (yes losing but the tradition). Doesn't anyone else realize that what the Cubs need is a WINNER? This guy is a loser. He's never won anything as an owner.
Reason #546786 why rich people and our obsession with fame confuse me.

Compared to the current regime, though, Cuban might work because even if he is not a winner, he desperately seeks being one. Cuban at least won't stop if they don't win.

You gettin' that feelin' too???
Now all I need is for Anthony to take over the Bears & I'm lookin' to upgrade to hollow points...:P

Yea, I jumped the gun by comparing him to Steinbrenner. I was just thinkin' of his whining & meddling but at least King George has gotten results at times...
Sorry, George...

Yeah...George has 7 titles...no?
Anyway...the point is the Cubs already have a schtick. They aren't the Mavs of MLB.
Cuban is a proven failure who has made HUGE errors in obtaining an NBA title.
What's the difference between him and the owner of the Knicks? Both spend a ton of $ and have never raised a banner.

It doesn't sound like Cuban has much of a shot at getting the Cubs anyway as he and Jerry Reinsdorf, owner of the White Sox and Bulls, are known to not be the best of friends and it is believed that Reinsdorf will do everything he can to block Cuban from getting enough votes to gain approval for ownership.
I, apparently in the minority, love Mark Cuban. No, he hasn't won anything yet, but it's not easy to win a title and doesn't happen overnight. But if you look at what he has done, he has turned the Mavs around. Recall that morbid state of that franchise before him. He's had them on the brink of a title, and you can't fault the owner for coaches and players not performing. Cuban is an innovator, a tireless worker, and as said above, is desperate to win.

You are in the minority when it concerns me and Tarkus...so rest easy (my unoffical shot at Tarkus for the day).
:P
The world at large loves Cuban.
Here's the deal Marc:
He took the morbid Mavs to great heights from where they were. The thing is...with the Cubbies...they have their own tradition and schtick goin' for them. They need a WINNER. Cuban can give nothing to that franchise.
Cuban is no innovator when it comes to winning. He's merely up there with the Knicks as a big spender with no ring.
Coaches and players not performing IS HIS FAULT. He needs to be a better judge of talent (with the suits and the players)...case closed.
Tireless worker...?
Depends on your definition. Maybe he's working hard at everything not related to winning. His refusal to work with or manipulate the powers that be to improve the league is astounding considering the love he gets. He's been the worst owner in the league for some time now.

I personally can't stand the guy.
He has a brilliant business brain. I have been to a couple of seminar that he spoke at and was truly impressed.
He just irks me with all his whining about everything not going the Mavs way. He always blasts the officials when the Mavs lose, but when they win he gets too much credit for being a great owner. And his childish battles with Furher Stern are sickening.

I like Cuban, too. I don't think it's fair to call him a LOSER just because the small market Mavs haven't won a title. If we include his business record, how are we about to call a billionaire a loser? Seems a little harsh to me. Looking at the business world, I would think someone who consistently fails and ends up homeless would be a loser. And that's not Mark Cuban.
The Cubs have talent, and have always had good players go through Chicago. I don't know if they need a "winnner" owner as much as they need someone who actually gives a crap about competing. Cuban may not sleep on a bed of titles, but we all know he would be enthusiastic about the Cubs, which half of their fanbase and mgmt. is NOT, he would never embrace the "wait till next year" or "lovable loser" philosophies, as most of the Cubs faithful DO, and we all know he would spend money on players, which never hurts (read: Yankees).
Sounds like the baseball ownership clique will shoot this thing down like a slow duck, but I think calling him a flat-out loser is harsh. I would love to see some personality in the owner's box. And he is certainly that.

Market size has nothing to do with it...PAYROLL does. He's always in the Top 10/5 and hasn't produced a ring.
