As we all know the NCAA rules oversight panel reversed the timing rules of 2006 back to 2005 form. Here are the new "old" rules along with a few other notes...

1. The clock will stop on possession changes and not start on kickoffs until the receiving team touches the ball.

2. After media timeouts during televised games, teams will have less time to run plays. Previously, teams had a 25-second play clock; now it will be 15 seconds.

3. Kickoffs will be made from the 30-yard line, like in the NFL, instead of the 35.

Personally I hate #3. It will result in more scoring as well as emphasize special team play. Anything that doesn't help defense...I'm against. :P

1. Good. It was nothing short of stupid to ever change it.

2. No big deal.

3. I don't think it'll make that much of a difference. If it results in a massive increase in KO return TD's, it will be re-modified.

The NFL did this a few years back and the only real difference it made was that there were fewer touchbacks and teams generally started with better field positions but it had little to no effect on kick returns for TDs.

College could be a bit different since the speed of the game is not quite the same as in the NFL and guys with elite speed on the field are fewer and far between. But, I doubt it leads to significantly more kicks going back the other way.

This is my concern. Ginn-like folks goin' crazy on Florida International.

I guess only the final stats will tell but I'm pretty sure coaches aren't pleased with it. Gene Chizik of ISU hates it.
