View Full Version : New design
Last night, Nate and I got a little bit of a redesign on the SCMB completed. If you haven't noticed, we have a nifty blue border with curved corners and the logo has been modified to be curved on the ends.
We have tested this in IE and it looks perfect in that. Netscape and other browsers are in question. I don't have Netscape, just Mozilla, and saw a few problems with displaying the logo's curved ends. If anyone has any other browsers like Opera or Netscape, please send me a screenshot at marc@sports-central.org if there are any differences in that version from IE.
Any feedback appreciated. :)
Look good in my opinion. :D
Netscape users can just....uh...nevermind.

3 things:
1 - It doesn't cater to those of us still on 800 by 600
2 - I think that you should do away with the curved logo and make it join up with the border -- OR -- center the nav bar at the top (NCAA Basketball, NCAA Football, Golf, MLB, etc., etc., etc.)
3 - The news ticker is still useless.... either put it in a frame or put it ONLY on the front page, because what's the point of it re-loading and starting all over again every time I visit a new page??... there is none!

1. I can't stand anything below 1024x768, but I realize the norm is 800x600 and I will take a look at it on that. In all honesty, I can't see how it causes a problem.
2. It is impossible to get the logo to stretch all the way across. That was my first thought, but we settled on making the logo curved at the ends.
3. Most people like it, including myself, and until everyone objects to it, I think it will remain.

Marc, seeing as how you are so stubborn as to not create a VERY simple 16-pixel high frame, I have decided to do it myself!
Visit http://geocities.com/FNHLNet/sportscentral/ for MY version of the SCMB's, and if anyone cares to visit that specific page instead of the current one, you are all invited to do so!!!.. I will never use sportscentralboards.com or sports-central.org/community/boards or boards.sports-central.org EVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!
(evil laugh..)

LOL Lee....I like it! :) I'm posting now using YOUR site :D :)
I have now updated my bookmark! Did any one notice how when you first get on, it says, Marc is stubborn because he will not let me use a 16-pixel frame like this one. LOL
If you don't like how the ticker is now, I am tempted to remove it completely as it is causing more trouble than it's worth. Please, guys, be respectful. Lee, you should contact me before you do something like this in the future.
The boards now look equally as good in Netscape as in IE. At first, the sides of the logo were a little off in Netscape.
I am working on making the boards in multiple, smaller tables rather than one large one because it will hurt Netsape users the way it is now. Netscape waits until the entire layout is loaded before it displays the page, so if it can display it in chunks for dial-up users like myself, it is desired.
I checked the boards on my laptop earlier today at 800x600 and they looked fine. I don't see any problems with viewing them at that resolution.
My observation is that most people like the ticker the way it is. Therefore, I don't think it is worth the trouble to implement Lee's idea. If someone tries to access the SCMB from a frame, a new JavaScript will automatically remove the frame.
Frames make some users feel "trapped" and it could cause some to leave. Further, frames are notorius to cause problems in some browsers and platforms. By many web professionals, frames are considered a negative thing and I don't want SC to be associated with such things.

I like the new look with the borders. It gives the site a much more sleek look. So I give a thumbs up to that.
The ticker is nice. It feels like it might be making the board a little slower for me to download than before the ticker was installed here but I like seeing the scores without having to go to espn.com to look them up. So I could take it or leave it. It doesn't matter to me.
