I am wondering, how is the site loading for you? Speedy? Average? Slow? Reply with your results, I would appreciate it.

Um, I would say, "Average".

I wouldn't call it "Fast". At least for me.

Extremely slow! Any site that makes me feel like I'm back on dial-up is not a good thing.

Please help us out by answering the following:

How does the SCMB speed compare to the regular site speed? (Articles, features, etc.)

Has the load time considerably increased since the design tweaks occured? (Blue borders, curved logo)

How does the speed compare to other vBs without naming any names?

1. Equal
2. No difference
3. Not Applicable

Right now I'm at my uncle's house who had DSL.... and the thing I've noticed both here AND at home with my 28.8K modem is that the load time is just fine and very good, but it takes FOREVER to post something once you hit "Submit Reply.".... way too long on that part... otherwise, for anything else, it's OK.

I think you are right, Lee. I think my main problem is that the connection can get kinda slow around Purdue during prime times, and I'm not used to having that problem. Also, it does take an incredibly long time to load after posting.

I have looked into this problem and it appears to be hanging due to the "sendmail" feature. Basically, if a user wants e-mail notification of posts, it has to send the e-mail out before the post is made. If it has trouble connecting and sending the e-mail notification, it hangs or times out until it does. The reason I research this is because the same stuff is happening to me, too.

This can be fixed by deactivating e-mail notifications. But I don't think it is worth taking that away since not many seem to be complaining about slow post reply response time. Hopefully, the next upgrade will improve this.

That can't be it, Marc. I don't use email notification and I get the exact same problem.

No, it has nothing to do with what you personally have. If anyone who posted in that thread had notifications enabled, it will slow it for everyone.

I'm on DSL and the only time the board gets a little slow for me is when I click on a thread.

I have DSL also, and the only slow times are on the reply screens.

I'm hoping that the reply problems are bugs in vB. Know anything, Marc?

Marc

It may be a bug in vB, but more likely something isn't as efficient as it should be, particularly the sendmail function, as mentioned earlier. Did you guys have these problems in prior versions? I can't seem to recall if I did, I doubt so. However, it is likely the server.

No, its been since we upgraded to 2.0.3

I have only been at this forum for a little while, but it seems average with loading speeds. When I try to post it gets slow.

Is there any secret I should know?

Thank you. Please respond soon.

No, jeremy. It has always been more slow for me when actually posting. Hopefully, this is just a small bug, and be fixed in the next version of vBulletin. If I remember right, vB 2.2 should be released soon, if it is not already out.

This was discussed earlier in this thread. This slow time while posting threads occurs because if the people that have posted in that particular thread have requested e-mail notification on any new replies to that thread, vB has to send out the e-mail notifications. This is the reason for the slow posting time.

vBulletin 2.2.0 was released a few days ago and we will be upgrading to it this weekend, hopefully. Not only does it have bug fixes (minor), but it has a few new features and cosmetic improvements. Before we upgraded this to 2.0.3 from 2.0.0, the speed was fine, so I am hoping this next upgrade improves things.

When you post a reply (not a thread) and it appears to "hang", hit submit again and it should go. Like any site, sometimes the server will be slower than normal, so be patient.

Thanks SC. I never knew that made posting slower.

Posting regularly over the past couple days I've noticed stuff's been a bit smoother and quicker than before (bout a month or two ago), the upgrade really has helped.

Yeah, this is a really solid upgrade. The major posting lag seems to be diminished, if not gone.

We successfully upgraded the boards to the latest and greatest version of vBulletin this morning. You might notice a few cosmetic changes, but nothing major. Among the improvements have been numerous bug fixes behind the scenes and most importantly, encrypted passwords - giving users much higher security. And hopefully, this upgrade will remove the "post hangup" many, including myself, were having. How's the speed now?

I noticed the speed change. It's quite a bit better.

Every once in a while it goes so slow that it drives me nuts but normally it's pretty fast.
