I am always curious to see what tennis racquets everyone uses these days (and why).

I use the Wilson Hammer Classic 5.2, it seems to be the best one I can find for an all court game. It is not as stiff as I would like for my volleys, but it seems to be the best for my ground strokes.

What about you?

Wilson! I'm not sure the exact model, but Wilson is my top choice. Also, Prince is good.

I have never owned anything besides a Wilson or Prince. I just have never found another racquet that I really liked. I think that they are both make good quality racquets. There are many others out there, but I prefer those 2 for myself.

Wow, I am suprised u guys don't know!!! I have my racquet's image burned into my head. But maybe that's from throwing it against the ground and having it bounce back up and smack me in the face.

Sounds like this board is partital to Wilsons so far!!!

Ok, no laughing now, but my main weapons are two 1977 vintage Wilson World Class Racquets, strung with VS synthetic gut. I used to use a Pete Sampras Vibration dampener, but recently switched to the Head Logo ones. Just a personal choice.

I also use two 1980 vintage Fischer Superforms. These are the ones with the diamond shaped heads and single shaft. All my current racquets are the old tradional 68 square inch head jobs.

I have tried many of the new ones, but for reasons too numerous to get into today, I have always gone back to my old high school and college standby sticks. All of my racquets are between 14.5 and 16 ounces strung, all head light, and all but one is 4 1/2 inch grip. One of the Fischers is actually a 4 3/8, but I have built up with overwrap to make it 4 1/2. Today's racquets are just too damn light for someone raised on wooden logs, and they may be even too light to generate real power (physics says power or energy = mass times acceleration. So, a 14 ounce racquet moving the same speed as a 10 ounce stick has more power). I know that the pro racquets are nearly 14 ounces after the pro techs customize them. All of today's racquets are head heavy, and therefore suck for my serve and volley tendencies.

If I can customize one of those new Head i.S18s sufficiently, I might switch to that. Otherwise my opponents will just have to cry when my dinky headed, quarter century old racquets beat them up on the court.

Coach Tom,

I have a lot of respect for those who use the older racuqets. I think that is cool. I play with a woman who hits better with a wooden racquet (in my opinion) but refuses to play with them!!! I wish she would use the older ones. Oh well...

I have tried using older ones, but they do not suit my game. They were before my time so I never really got into them. I always think it is cool to see someone with an older vinatge racquet beat the crap out of someone using "today's technology". They never see it coming. :)

I had a friend here organize a tournament where you were only were allowed to use wooden racquets. It went quite well!!!
