If you don't know about - take a look at http://sports.yahoo.com/pga/news/ap/20001107/ap-woods-tour.html

Now, if Finchem does that, and I don't think Tiger is lying - Finchem is a loser and taking advantage of what Woods has done for the sport and he probably recognizes it, but probably too much of a jerk to say anything to Woods.

About them using him in promotion for the tour, he agrees to it by being a tour player, which he already knows. But, his name and face is used a lot more then other players... so it makes you think if they are abusing one of the most popular athletes in the world. And Woods has to protect his sponsors, he'll be paid 54 million this year for people to use his name and face, and the tour gets that for free.

Note to PGA: Lighten up on the promotional items with Woods in them? Alright? :D

Let me know what you all think.

I agree, the PGA needs to lighten up. Tiger is the guy that is keeping the game afloat, admist everything else, and they need to keep him happy.

Afloat? I didn't go that far did I? I hope not. :)

Golf is one of the most historic sports and has a rich history. The game will survive well, with out without Woods. But, he has greatly (understatement) helped the popularity of the sport.

Yes, I heard Woods say this on one of my sports stations earlier this week... I would like to comment something you said on in your original post, Patrick:

"he'll be paid 54 million this year for people to use his name and face, and the tour gets that for free"

Umm... no... I don't think that the tour gets "to use his name and face... for free." The PGA Tour pays his salary, do they not!??

Plus, it's like any other sport... I just saw the NHL use Brendan Shanahan in a commercial promoting the "Coolest Game On Earth." Should the NHL not be able to use its players and its teams in their commercials!?... same goes for any other sport, including golf and the PGA Tour.

No Lee, PGA Tour sponsors are the ones that put the Pots up at each event. They do not pay his salary.
You also took my post out of context.

I said that "About them using him in promotion for the tour, he agrees to it by being a tour player, which he already knows." and then I stated the comments you quoted.

The PGA Tour does get his name and face for virtually free.

And I'm sorry, you can't compare Brendan Shanahan to Tiger Woods and you can't compare a rough sport like Hockey to a game of class like Golf. (I won't argue that Lee :))

Furthermore, you can't compare team sports advertising to individual sport advertising. Also, the PGA does use Tiger Woods more so then any other athlete, with good reason.

I am not saying its wrong or illegal. I am just saying I think they should ligten up.

Well, I'm saying Woods should lighten up!!

...by no means am I comparing hockey to golf, but Tiger Woods plays in the Professional Golfers Assosciation Tour, just like Brendan Shanahn plays in the National Hockey League...

Okay, so I was wrong that the PGA Tour payed his salary, but the NHL does not pay Shanahan's salary! -- same situation, even if Woods images are being used more than any other athlete on the planet right now.
