There have been so many great players since the first Stanley Cup was awarded in 1897, and the NHL was formed in the early 1900s. Well what if you could bring back all the players, coaches, and managers; put them all back on skates or behind the benches?
Create your all-time team: 4 scoring lines, 3 defense pairings, 3 goaltenders, 3 coaches, and 1 GM!
Here's mine:
General Manager: Glen Sather
Head Coach: Jack Adams
Assistant Coaches: Toe Blake & Scotty Bowman
1st Line: Bobby Hull-Wayne Gretzky-Maurice Richard
(The Golden Jet-The Great One-The Rocket: whadda line!)
2nd Line: Ted Lindsay-Sid Abel-Gordie Howe
(that is the greatest line ever -- why else would they have called it "The Production Line"?)
3rd Line: Phil Esposito-Mario Lemieux/Le Magnifique-Guy Lafleur
4th Line: Frank Mahovlich/The Big M-Mark Messier-Jaromir Jagr
1st Defense Pairing: Bobby Orr-Denis Potvin
2nd Defense Pairing: Doug Harvey-Ray Bourque
3rd Defense Pairing: Paul Coffey-Red Kelly
Starting Goaltender: Terry Sawchuk
Back-up Goalies: Patrick Roy, Dominik Hasek/The Dominator
Captain: Mark Messier
Alternate Captains: Bobby Hull, Gordie Howe (Mr. Hockey)

Some interesting selections, Peck... some more "modern" players (e.g.: played within the last decade or two), but that's fine.
Really, I should have found a place for Steve Yzerman myself, and Larry Robinson as well... I guess they could be my "healthy scratches."
...and Espo-Lemieux-Jagr would be my #2, but I just couldn't resist re-uniting The Production Line! (Sid Abel recently passed away?)
Also, King Clancy actually played?... was he not an owner of one of the the Original 6, or am I off on that? Chicago, maybe?... or was he player-turned-owner?

WHO?
Other than that, nice team... Peck and I have chosen relatively the same teams... well, maybe 25-45% of the players are different, but they all have the same core.
"Montreal Binz", you've posted an interesting selection of players... from LONG ago (Bower) and today (Stevens)... nice choices!!
BTW, "Montreal Binz", welcome to the Sport Central message boards!... while Montreal is not my fav team (my fav teams are Ottawa, Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, Toronto, AND Montreal... yes I am Canadian), I do agree with your signature, "Montreal Canadiens will prevail !"

Thanks for the welcome ! Hope of having fun answering you guys.
Sorry that you don't know Sam ! He was the GM for the Canadians for at least 15 years I think. Speak to others and probebly he's Sathers favorite choice !
P.S. Hoping that Montreal Canadiens will prevail !
Again thank you for the welcome committee !

...no.. I've never heard of him... I would consider myself pretty knowledgeable about the history of hockey, but I can't know EVERY GM and Head Coach ;)

They were good but no didn't cut it, also Esposito isn't the guy I was thinking of. He was a Flyers goalie in the 80's and his name was either french or swedish. It's bugging the hell outta me now that I can't remember it.

That Flyers goalie's name was Pelle Lindbergh. He had the potential to become a great and quite possibly even a legendary
goaltender. Unfortunately, his intelligence and instinct for the game did not translate to life off the ice. He was killed in an auto accident where alcohol and speeding played a major part. If I remember correctly his blood alcohol was so high no one could figure out how he could stand, let alone get behind the wheel of a car. Everyone (including myself) who counted themselves among the Flyers faithful were devastated by this tragedy but no one (besides his family) was affected more than Bernie Parent. He took this kid under his wing and I would even go so far as to say he loved him like a son. Geez, we all loved him; he was not only a fantastic goalie but was a hell of a nice guy off the ice to boot. He's an apt choice for the ultimate line up.

STEVE: Is this the guy you were thinking of!?
Also, Ravyn, welcome to the SC Message Boards!!... Hopefully you stay a long time and give us more of your hockey input. We need more NHL guys around here! ;)

Thanks for the welcome, will try to be around for a while. I'm quite impressed with the knowledge all you guys have, I just hope I can keep up! I've been into the NHL since the expansion when my Flyers came into being and have been a long suffering fan ever since, lol. My opinion--hockey rules, all other sports are secondary! Thanks again for the welcome.
P.S. With apologies to Montreal Binz--Hoping the Flyers will prevail! (Although I think I will continue to have a long wait!)
Howdy, Ravyn! Glad to have you here, look forward to your future posts. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. And don't be intimidated how it's kind of slow in this board during the offseason. ;)
