So how is everyone doing on Wall Street Sports (http://www.wallstreetsports.com/) these days? I've been particpating for about 2.5 months now, and I'm quite sure by the end of this week I will have made my first million!...
...before I was just out buying players for whatever reason, but now I'm starting to buy with a little more stradegy... hopefully I'm using the right stradegy! :)
For the record, I'm hovering under 10,000 for most of my time playing on the street... right now I'm at 8,002, but yesterday I was at 6,000!... I'm quite happy with that... what about everyone else???
Total Stock Value: $180,012.50
Total Fund Value: $0.00
Cash on Hand: $872,888.00
Total Portfolio Value: $1,052,900.50
Rank: 132615 out of 618240
Not bad considering I haven't logged in for months! Two of my stocks are soaring, one with a 5000% increase and another with 2000%!

...it's safe to say that I am now obssessed with WSS!

Well, I recently read somewhere in another thread on this board that we had a $1.6 billionaire on these boards... it'd be interesting for him (and everyone else) to join this thread every once in a while to see where he is ranked exactly and his division of mutual funds and stocks.
Here is the update on me: I'm proud of myself for making my first million and that should be doubling fast!!! :)

Thats good... whats your rank?
DiamondDave
01-19-2001, 06:25 PM
Rank this month is not too high.. harder to get high on the monthly rank with a high dollar amount.. (it's based on % change, which is easier with a low dollar amount (just buy the hottest couple of stocks for a night))...
This month is around 59000, so far

Yeah I understand... hard to yield a high percentage return when your rich? lol :D
Anyone still involved with WSS? I sure have! I just realized several people from my school have a WSS league and now that I'm joined, I'm really hooked!

I'm not into this kind of stuff. I like good old fantasy teams where you get a team like in real life. :)

I'd still be confused about all this. Is this stocks only or what??
iFroggy

Kinda.
You buy stock in athletes. Example: 100 shares of Derek Jeter, 1000 shares of Tiger Woods, etc.

Wedge, go here: http://www.wallstreetsports.com/how_to_play/index.html
Basically, much like the real stock market, player's stocks go up and down according to their performances in their sport and how they are being traded.

:o Thanks. Sounds interesting. Is it worth a try?

Most definitely! You can win prizes, too. I check how my WSS stocks are doing at lunch while checking my e-mail.

Hey everyone,
How many stocks do you buy? 10, 100, 1000 ?
I bought 20 shares of about 10 different players. I have a ton of money left over. Also, do you only buy players that are playing now? No football etc. ? Do I use a lot of money to get players or do I hold back? I'm new at this, so bare with me. ;)
iFroggy
05-08-2001, 10:34 PM
Well, just like the real stock market. If you only own 20 shares and a stock gos up a buck, you get $20. :)

That's cool. I'm too lazy so maybe I'll give it a shot whenever I get time. Probably in a few weeks...

Okay... time for you all to update us on how your portfolio is doing. I just cracked the $6,000,000 mark today! :)
Total Stock Value: $4,306,198.50
Total Fund Value: $232,458.97
Cash on Hand: $1,533,938.62
Total Portfolio Value: $6,072,596.00

Daily Percentage: 0.08 % (T4)
Weekly Percentage: 0.17% (5)
Monthly Percentage: 9.43% (4)
Quartrly Percentage: 9.43% (4)
Yearly Percentage: 233.27% (1st)
Portfolio Value: $6,072,596.00 (1st)
Lee, what matters is how you're doing NOW, not how you did in February or March. While having a good yearly gain percentage illustrates that you have consistently been a solid WSS player, you fail to mention your CURRENT status, which matters. The only way you can see yourself a top the standings is to click the "extended view" link, but what matters is the regular view. For example, you don't win a race by how you're doing overall in the points standings, you win it by how you did in the CURRENT race. :)

Additionally.... it's a lot easier to increase your portfolio PERCENTAGE when you have less money.... because if you have figured it out, you can score $6,000 every day by clicking banner ads... so $6,000 in a portoflio of just $2,000,000 is a lot more percentage points than a portfolio of $6,000,000.

I need to clarify more - I meant that you had put so much emphasis on your yearly and total value that you didn't put as much emphasis on your current position and ranking. Perhaps I misunderstood your post, but the fact of the matter is that you are in third place (last I checked). You put your bold and underlined text on yearly percentage and portfolio value rather than your current overall WSS rank and monthly gain. I interpreted that you thought these fields were the most important to the game, but now I see that you may have just done that to highlight your good ranking. Forgive me. :)

...I'm not sure how or by what means, but I had full intentions of SUCKING this month as I geared up for a big October and November -- a final push for to end the calendar year.
However, I ended up being #1 in the SC members league in WSS for the first half of the month; #2 for the second half of Septembers; and have been in the top 10,000 of WSS for the month despite only having my portfolio increase 19.40%.... Is the stock market in a recession or what!?!?!?!!!?????
How is everyone else doing?
Good question.
In June, July, and early August, I was doing spectacular, holding the top place in both leagues I'm in and ranked in the top 3000. Now, I am in the top 20,000 out of 600,000+, and like Lee, and gearing up for the fall and winter seasons. I have my football stocks secured and are starting out in basketball now. I only have one baseball stock left.
