But yes, the PGA Tour is back for the 2002 season after a short 1.5 month break!!!!!!!!!!


Canada's Mike Weir, who made the last event of the year, the Tour Championship, his his one and only win of 2001, is now picking up where he left off at the Mercedes Championship, a winners-only event (you must have won on the Tour in 2001 in order to play... thus, the field is only 32 players) in Hawaii and is the first round leader at -10 after one round.

The real question is, how long will it be until America (and Canada ;)) actually care about a tournament? It's like the GalleryFurniture.com Bowl, for gosh's sakes. But yeah, I think they should wait a bit more to play. And speaking of "never realizing it left", I can't believe NASCAR is coming back next month already! It seems like it was just fall and everything was ending!

...well, I never realized NASCAR even came last year!!! -- but this is a Golf forum.

To answer your question, though, "how long will it be until America (and Canada ) actually care about a tournament?" ... the answer is April -- The Masters. And, if you even dont care about the Masters, then my answer to you is this -- how many golf fans care about the Super Bowl?

For the most part, golf is like any other sport -- who actually cares about the "regular season" ("regular season" in quotes 'cuz Golf doesn't have a "regular season," but you could consider all the other tournaments a "lead-up" to the Majors ie, the "playoffs")!?????? ..... To be honest, I watch very little regular season play in any of the major team sports (yes, even hockey!... I swear, I've watched more regular season NFL this year than NHL).... I follow all the sports, but don't watch any live action that closely until the playoffs.... however, I do follow them all closely through the web and on the prime time sportscasts.

Sergio Garcia won his third North American PGA Tour event yesterday, winning on the first playoff hole of the Mercedes Championship over David Toms.


....good start for Sergio's quest to be the money leader on both the PGA & EPGA tours!
