If no one minds, I'll post a link to a review I wrote of the latest Sean Connery flick, "Finding Forrester."

Just trying to get some readers and exposure. I make literally next to nothing for this.

"Finding Forrester" looks to be a good movie...

I heard it was good.
Has anyone seen Castway? Is it good or really good? I want to see it.

yeah, I want to see Finding Forrester, too.... actually, there are A LOT of movies that have come out recently that I want to see... Castaway, Anittrust, the one with Will Smith & Matt Damon about golf -- the Legend of (something?)...
The Grinch looks like a cool movie!, but I'll probably end up watching that next year at Christmas time, assuming they put it out on video... which would seem like a logical time to do that... Jim Carey (or is it Carrey?... I forget...) is just an amazing actor!!!

Yeah, Carrey is awesome! I like every movie he has been in pretty much. I mean, you think the guy is just comedy, then he does something like the Truman Show, which I thought he did a great job on, and then Man on the Moon, which I saw and I liked, and now the Grinch. He is very versatile.

I think Carrey is an overrated actor. He was funny in his "Ace Ventura, Pet Detective" days, but I don't think he's very funny anymore. The Truman Show was odd, but alright, but the Man on the Moon was absolutely terrible! We rented it and couldn't even sit through it. Need I say more?

I saw Cast Away which had a pretty cool plot and had some funny parts.

Speaking of movies, I am writing a screenplay myself. I think the plot I came up with would make a good movie.

...Jim Carey is cool and Canadian!... sure, some of his movies suck (all actors have movies like that), like the one Marc mentioned (I didn't see it, but my parents absolutely hated it), but Liar Liar was a recent one and it was OK (actually, 3 years old), and what about Me, Myself, and Irene?... or The Grinch?...
speaking of screen play writers...did anyone see that guy on Who Wants To Be A Millionare a long, LONG time ago?... I will tell you the story about him...
Regis and him were doing the "small talk" they always do before the game actually starts, and Regis brought up that this guy was into the movie business, so this guy told the story that (as best I can remember!), "One day, I was given a script of a film that took place in WWII, and I didn't see a good stoyline or anything with it so I threw it out... well the next day, some guy named Steven Spielberg picked it up, hired Tom Hanks to star in it, called it, 'Saving Private Ryan,' made millions of dollars and won a bunch of awards."
...the funny thing is, though, I thought he was RIGHT ON THE MONEY.... sure, the effects and everything were good during the fighting scenes (e.g.: the beginning was really cool), but I thought the characters sucked and the story was so amazingly boring!... glad it didn't win Best Picture that year at the Oscars!

Wow, can't agree with that. "Ryan" is one of my favorites of all time. Yes, it wasn't perfect and had some poor plot points--that framing device at the memorial was too sappy and deceptive--but the overall impact of the movie stayed with me for days. I can't remember the last time I walked out of a movie feeling like I did when I walked out of that one.
Speaking of movies, here's what's in my (growing) DVD collection -
Saving Private Ryan, Terminator 2, The Matrix, The Shawshank Redemption, Alien, Aliens, Alien3, Fight Club, Seven, The Usual Suspects, Contact, Full Metal Jacket, The Hunt For Red October, Crimson Tide (love sub flicks!), Platoon, American Beauty, Gladiator, Star Trek II, Star Trek III.
DVD is awesome...

...you do realize that without that "spappy" memorial scene, the movie would not have taken place... :)
...but I still thought the movie absolutely sucked... hard to believe that I'm saying that considering Tom Hanks is absolutely my favorite actor, but that's my opinion, and you are entitled to yours!
...wish I had a DVD player!...
While we're at it, what are some of your favorite movies? I really like The Hurricane with Denzel Washington and [i]The Green Mile[/b] with Tom Hanks.

My favorite movie, and in my opinion the best movie ever made was The Shawshank Redemption.

...you and I must have kind of the same tastes, Marc!... I loved The Hurricane, and the only book I've read for any purpose other than school (e.g.: for fun) was The 16th Round, on which the movie was based on... personally, I think Washington was ROBBED of the oscar for Best Actor last year -- he was awesome in that movie!
...Titanic was an OK movie... the effects were awesome in that movie!... other favs... Apollo 13 & Forrest Gump (yes, I like Tom Hanks movies!).... and Star Wars, of course.
Anyone see Mission to Mars?? That movie was stupid... it was OK unitl the end -- the ending just made me mad because it didn't really end!!!...
What is the biggest theatre anyone has ever been to??? The biggest I was at was in Walt Disney World in Florida -- it had 21 screens, I think... it was HUGE

I thought the ending to the Green Mile sucked worse tham mission to mars'. That is what I liked about Shawshank Redemption, the ending was awesome. Everything that happened throughout the movie clicked into place in the end.

...well, I thought that the plot & subplot all ended nicely at the end... the mouse and whats-his-name live for eternity (well, not eternity -- just a REALLY long time) because of the wrong whats-his-name did to a really good man.
Mission to Mars just doesn't end!... well, it ends, but the story is left unfinished.
I never saw The Shawshank Redemption, so I can't speak for that one.

Just saw it last weekend. Nothing great, but at least OK up until the end...and the end was one of the worst endings in recent film history. So poorly executed, with that ridiculous looking computer-generated alien. Ugh. It ruined the whole movie. I didn't mind the way the story ended, just how it was executed by the filmmakers.

Sure, it wasn't so much the fact that there *WAS* a memorial scene, it was just the way Spielberg chose to film it. Most of the movie is brilliantly filmed, but the opening and closing present-day sequences are pure, heavy-handed Hollywood cheese. It was unnecessary--the sun behind the flag, the closeup on the elderly Ryan's eyes that turns into Tom Hanks...the problem with that is it makes you think at first that Ryan is Hanks, but RYAN DIDN'T LAND AT NORMANDY LIKE THAT, HE PARACHUTED IN, SO HE WASN'T ON THE BOAT! That's what I mean by deceptive. Other than that, though, and maybe being a little long, pretty much a perfect film, IMHO.
DVD is the way to go!

I wanted to see "The Green Mile" at first, but I loved the book so much that I didn't see any point in going--there was no way they could have made it better than the book, and maybe they would have forced me to see things in the book differently--for example, I don't imagine Tom Hanks as the main character, as much as I like him as an actor. I've got my own mental image of the story, I didn't want anyone else's vision. That's just me, though.
"The Shawshank Redemption" is a great great film though, one of the 10 best I've seen, see it immediately if you haven't. You won't be sorry.
