So who do you guys think will win the Rookie of the Year Award? I have to say this looks like the weakest rookie class I've seen in a while. I don't think there's really one rookie (at least not one I think of right now) making that great of an impact. Things are supposed to be better this coming Summer. The next Draft is supposed to be pretty strong. One of the stronger ones we've had in a while.

Anyways, let me throw a name out there. I'm a little biased but Marc Jackson of the Golden State Warriors. He's a power forward/center for us and he was just named December Rookie of the Month. He wasn't even drafted last Summer. He was a 2nd round pick of the Warriors back in 1997 from Temple and he's been in Europe the last 3 years and it's really helped his game. Because he was really able to work and hone his game overseas. He can hit the outside shot really good for a big man. Got good range. He's got some nice post moves underneath the basket and tries hard on defense. He still needs to work on those 2 aspects of his game but I think he'll just become better and better because he's just such a hard worker off the court and plays hard all the time on it.

But I guess Kenyon Martin is probably the front runner. He was the top overall pick for the Nets this past Summer, and I like what I've seen from him even though I don't get to see New Jersey a lot. What I really like about him is he just loves to defend, so the coaches don't have to worry about instilling and developing that in his mind set and that's a rare quality for anybody that comes into the N.B.A. these days. He does have to work on his outside shot because I heard Nets' coaches say that he really has to go and tear down his whole shot this Summer and start developing it from scratch.

C - Marc Jackson
Golden State Warriors
Drafted in 1997, 38th pick
Stats: 12.5 ppg on 53% shooting, 6.5 rpg

F - Kenyon Martin
New Jersey Nets
Drafted in 2000, 1st pick
Stats: 11.3 ppg on 42% shooting, 7.2 rpg

It's simple. Unless Kenyon Martin has a remarkable rest-of-the-year, Mark Jackson should get it. What has Kenyon done? 10 points and 8 rebounds a game DOES NOT CUT THE CAKE for a #1 pick. Jackson was a 2nd round pick in 1997 ... no pressure, but he's stepped up his game big time and proven he belongs here with his many double-doubles and leadership. But it seems as though it's sorta a popularity contest to me, and Brand will walk away with at least part of the trophy in his name.

You talk about a weak class, this is it. And even worse, I heard the former rookies are now going to play them in the rookie game. That means Brand, Odom, etc. against this year's class. Going to be a blow-out.

Yeah, i think Morris Peterson is gonna be the Rookie of the year. Right now he doesn't average as many points and martin and jackson. MoPete'z starting to play more for corliss williamson because he hasn't been producing and peterson'z playing grrrrrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeat.

I'd like to add Mike Miller of the Orlando Magic as a possibly Rookie of the Year candidate. He's really stepped it up of late.

Wait till next year when Tracy McGrady, Miller and Grant Hill all get to play together.
