So who do you guys think will win the Rookie of the Year Award? I have to say this looks like the weakest rookie class I've seen in a while. I don't think there's really one rookie (at least not one I think of right now) making that great of an impact. Things are supposed to be better this coming Summer. The next Draft is supposed to be pretty strong. One of the stronger ones we've had in a while.
Anyways, let me throw a name out there. I'm a little biased but Marc Jackson of the Golden State Warriors. He's a power forward/center for us and he was just named December Rookie of the Month. He wasn't even drafted last Summer. He was a 2nd round pick of the Warriors back in 1997 from Temple and he's been in Europe the last 3 years and it's really helped his game. Because he was really able to work and hone his game overseas. He can hit the outside shot really good for a big man. Got good range. He's got some nice post moves underneath the basket and tries hard on defense. He still needs to work on those 2 aspects of his game but I think he'll just become better and better because he's just such a hard worker off the court and plays hard all the time on it.
But I guess Kenyon Martin is probably the front runner. He was the top overall pick for the Nets this past Summer, and I like what I've seen from him even though I don't get to see New Jersey a lot. What I really like about him is he just loves to defend, so the coaches don't have to worry about instilling and developing that in his mind set and that's a rare quality for anybody that comes into the N.B.A. these days. He does have to work on his outside shot because I heard Nets' coaches say that he really has to go and tear down his whole shot this Summer and start developing it from scratch.
