Its once again time for fantasy baseball. And where better to fight it out than on the Sports Central boards?
Click here and sign up: Yahoo! Fantasy Baseball (http://standard.baseball.fantasysports.yahoo.com/b1)
I put room for 12 teams, I dunno, I might cut it down to 12 teams though. Its roto scoring which awards points for Average, Runs, RBI, HR's, SB, and OPS (OBP + Slugging Percentage). Pitching categories are: IP, W, Saves, Ks, ERA, and WHIP. Stats can be changed if enough people support it.
So far the draft time is Sunday, March 10, 7:10 PT. This can also be changed for the time being, and is very tenative. So if it doesn't work, speak up and we'll try to accomidate everybody if at all possible. Good luck and have fun.
League ID# is: 47574
Password is: baseball
Good luck everybody.
P.S. If enough people would also like to participate in a head to head league, we have talked about a possible future head-to-head league in addition to this roto league.
I'm all signed up! Looking forward to this! Go Doggs!
I'm in!
Is this going to be weekly or daily in how often you can change your lineups?

I'm in too, but the draft time doesn't work for me. I'll be at work then. I've pre-ranked some players and will accept the rest from the machine picks.

THE WINNIPEG GOLDEYES HAVE ENTERED THE STADIUM.
BE AFRAID.
BE VERY AFRAID.
;)
Marc, I would assume like any other fantasy league that you can make daily changes.... but one thing I would like to see changed is the max. amount of games and innings played. That rule's dumb and I think it's worked out for the best to NOT have it in the SCMB NHL hockey league this season.
I also think that trade deadlines are insignificant in Roto leagues (unlike head-to-head leagues, where a deadline would mean something if you set it the week before the regular season ended), and therefore think that we should lift that rule.

Well, there is a Y! baseball league I am in from school that is weekly, rather than daily. The records and rosters can only be updated weekly, thus making less work for people. But I like daily, it gives me more of a chance to tweak lineups.

oic.. gotcha, but most/all Y! leagues are daily.
Brandon
02-26-2002, 10:28 PM
This league is daily transactions with only a one day waiver period. Plus, Lee, you'll be glad to hear this, no maximums. That's the only thing I really hated too.

The R&R Boys are now officially signed in! I will look to improve on last years dissapointing performance. Unlike last year, I will actually be able to participate in the draft. Could we make it Saturday though? Or are all Sat dates filled?
Brandon

Unfortunately no, I think we're pretty locked in to the draft time now. The times fill up quickly. Although I think this draft time should work out rather well.

Didn't see your post on this board Lee. On the message board at the league's home, I announced that I did away with the deadline. Okay with everybody?

Ya, i figured you missed it on here so I posted it there, too and I did see that you changed it. .... no one else seems to have input so I guess its OK with everyone!
Brandon

I wish Lee. I'm just going to copy and paste what I put on the Yahoo! board here:
I'm opposed to a autopick draft myself. To how many people does this draft time pose conflicts? If its too many, we're going to have to go with an autopick draft as much as I don't like it. However it's impossible to accomidate everybody with the draft time because of various time zones. And as of now, all weekend spots are taken and all night spots on the weekdays are taken. A manual draft probably won't work. The format I was thinking of on a manual draft would be that people would announce their picks on the SC board or on this message board and I would input it into Yahoo! However, this would take too much time. So as I see it, we have two options: stick w/ the draft time, or go with an autopick draft.
For people in the EST, it could be tricky as it's after 10 on a weeknight.
Richard the Lionheart
03-04-2002, 04:01 PM
If its autopick you can still prerank players, right?
Yes, Rick. That's how you can get some good players.
Brandon
03-04-2002, 07:28 PM
Rick announced a good idea on the Yahoo! boards. He suggested that we conduct the draft ourselves (supervised and ran by me) in the SC chat room. Could everybody make it to that? I'm not sure about this Sunday for me, but possibly Tuesday, March 12, at around 5 or 6 MST?
I don't know - weeknights are not good with me. It's too unpredictable with too many things going on. I'd rather just have it autopick, I guess. The only thing I am concerned about is if Y! will give fair players to each team as I don't have the fantasy baseball knowledge to prerank players. :)
Richard the Lionheart
03-04-2002, 08:55 PM
Cmon Marc! Doing your own draft is much beter. It takes ore knowledge of the game. Autopick sucks. ALthough, I do have 70 some players preranked already.
lmanchur.
03-04-2002, 09:24 PM
I do not like that idea as you can't keep an updated, real-time list as to who is and who is not available in the draft.
What's wrong with the current time that everyone is against so much? 10 PM is not that late. These drafts don't take too long.
The reason I'm against an offline draft (ie: autopick) is because you can't properly manage your positions throughout the draft.
Brandon
03-05-2002, 12:01 AM
We need to make a decision soon. Everybody please say whether the live draft will work or not (it should be around an hour, if everybody shows up). And if not, please tell me what you would rather have, a autopick draft, or a manual, SC Chat room draft.
For a change, I SHOULD be able to make a live draft. I really don't care either way.
lmanchur.
03-05-2002, 08:24 AM
Keep the live Y! draft as originally planned.
Lee, 10 PM is late when you consider that this isn't something that takes 5 minutes, it's a lengthy process. Plus, you don't have to get up at 6 AM.
I really don't care, but autopick would be easiest for me. How many people were at the previous league drafts? Many missed them, actually. Perhaps if this draft was like Fanball and went over an extended period of time as each manager gets to make his decision (I prefer this method), I could live with it, but with Y!, you apparently must be there or it picks it for you.
lmanchur.
03-05-2002, 05:37 PM
If it's a live draft, Y! will autopick for you based on how you pre-ranked players, so there's really no difference if you do a live draft versus an offline draft for those that would prefer the offline draft.
Richard the Lionheart
03-05-2002, 07:39 PM
Well there is a difference, but it doesnt mater. Autodraft will have to do.

We've got 3 for an online draft, 3 not for the online draft, and then 1 neutral (but can make the draft.). I'm not exactly sure how I'm going to handle this yet. Keep speaking up people!
lmanchur.
03-05-2002, 11:23 PM
Whoever votes for an "autodraft" might as well just vote for "live" 'cuz you hafta prerank the players anyway for the autodraft, and Y! will use your pre-rankings for the autodraft anyway . . . an offline draft on the boards or a draft in the SC chatroom is completely, 100% different than a Y!autodraft.
Brandon
03-06-2002, 12:03 PM
Unfortuanely, people spoke up about the draft time a couple days too late after joining the league, and Yahoo! draft times are taken quickly. I'm still divided as what to do and obviously a decision needs to be made soon, whether it be autopick or a live draft. I'm leaning towards live because it was the original format and people can still autopick.
lmanchur.
03-06-2002, 05:42 PM
EXACTLY MY POINT! :D
Sounds good to me, Brandon.
That's fine - but can someone please clarify something for me? I haven't autopicked because frankly, I haven't a clue who's better in this, fantasy baseball-wise. So my question is, if I DON'T prerank, will Y! select the top available player or something like that? I don't want to leave it up to the server if it picks like some terrible guy, you know.
Maybe I could formulate my prerankings if I had a good resource. What do you all recommend for draft tips? We've still got a week!

Marc, ESPN and The Sporting News has free info and good rankings in their fantasy sections. Yahoo does a decent job ranking, but you'd definitely want to prerank so you get good choices the first few rounds.

Alright, now we've got another issue to discuss. I can change the format to Head-to-Head, but everybody needs to vote for rotisserie or head-to-head. Majority wins and that will be our format. Simple enough? Thought so.
As for the draft it seems like most people are fine with the Live draft and the people that can't attend pre-ranking and Yahoo! autopicking for them. At least that's what I've gotten out of the discussion.
Let's just leave the draft as-is.
I prefer head-to-head, myself. (Going to check out rankings ASAP.)

It's St. Patty's Day night so I don't think I'll be there, but I'll pre-rank.
If you don't show up and don't pre-rank, I'm pretty sure Yahoo gives you the higest ranked player left on the board.
I'm glad - that sounds reasonable. Brandon, as commish, is there any e-mail to e-mail everyone to remind them about the draft? Three weeks ago many registered and many will probably forget.
Brandon
03-11-2002, 10:45 PM
I will do that in the next couple of days, Marc.

I'll try to be there, probably not, though. I've got some test studying to do and will be busy today.

DAMN!!! Missed the league.
Any chance I can get in.... probably not eh?
DAMN DAMN DAMN.
Oh well....
Sorry, shaggy, league already had it's draft and not much we can do. Stick around and we'll be having a football league in the late summer.
Brandon

I'm right where I want to be. After having digging myself a tremendous hole in the first half with my team, I've clawed and worked myself back into position for a run into the 6th spot and postseason.
I got Rivera back so I'm hoping to make a push.
Brandon

You're gonna have to get over me. Good luck, you'll need it. :D

This season is looking like the 2000 U.S. Open -- Tiger's leading by 13 strokes and to slap everyone a second time, no one else is even under par. At least I'm the Ernie Els.
I find it funny that the more moves Marc makes, the further down the standings he goes.
Actually, I haven't moved down in the standings recently, to my knowledge. I was screwed from the onset with the draft. But hey, you live and learn and I'm doing much better in my other Y! league.
Brandon
08-14-2002, 03:34 AM
Not like the standings matter come playoff time. :D
Nate's already said he's giving up so I should be able to pass him and then I have to get past you to get in the playoffs. :D I'm winning 9-1 this week so I can hopefully make some ground.
Brandon
08-14-2002, 04:16 PM
This should be a good race, I didn't realize you were so close. Man, I wish those injuries wouldn't have hit, but I think I got some great pickups as fill-ins such as Huff and Hudson. This is gonna be fun, and I'm not lettin you get my 6th spot. :D
lmanchur.
08-15-2002, 12:38 PM
*cough* And I'm quite comfortable in second, thank you very much.
Brandon
08-17-2002, 02:35 AM
And I'm quite comfortable in 6th, beating whomever will be the 3rd seed and then knocking you off in another league Lee. ;)
lmanchur.
08-17-2002, 08:01 PM
What other league, Brandon!? The hockey season isn't even close to starting yet!!!!!
God, my batters SUCK this week. I can't wait 'till Monday when they all have a day off, sit down in the corner, think about what they've done, and start producing for this playoff run.
Brandon
08-18-2002, 01:23 PM
Wow. I messed that post up.
It was supposed to say this: And I'm quite comfortable in 6th, beating whomever will be the 3rd seed and then knocking you off next week Lee. Just like a league not too long ago. ;)
Is that better. :D
But now I have aspirations to move up even further in the standings, so we'll see.

Here's a question for ya'll -- how many players do you still have on your roster from the original 22 you drafted? I still have half of my entry draftees, but of those, Rick Reed was, at one point, released during the season but then I later picked him up again from waivers later, so only 10 have been on my team all season long.
They are:
1st round'er Randy Johnson
#3 Luis Gonzalez
#6 Michael Tejada
#8 Jose Vidro
#9 Byung-Hyun Kim
#10 Richie Sexson
#11 Jeff Zimmerman
#12 Tim Salmon
#13 Rick Reed
#17 Kenny Lofton
#19 Tony Batista
Brandon

They are:
#1 Chipper Jones
#2 Tim Hudson
#3 Manny Ramirez
#4 Carlos Delgado
#5 Andruw Jones
#6 Jorge Posada
#7 Rafael Furcal
#9 Josh Beckett
#10 Edgardo Alfonzo
#11 Darrin Erstad
#14 Jason Schmidt
#15 Edgar Martinez
#19 Pedro Astacio

3. Albert Pujols
4. John Olerud
