I see so often the Pro's make drop shots. If they make the drop shot and it was sucessful the announcers say that it was genious. If they miss, even by a fraction of an inch they say it was a stupid shot.

I just sat here and watched the Seles/Capriati match and near the end Capriati executed a nice drop shot. Cliff said that he thought it wasn't going to go over and that he couldn't believe that she would try such a shot in a big moment like that. But then he continued to say that since it was good she was a "genious". Or so it went about like that. I can't tell you how many times i have heard the pros say similar things to every drop shot.

Missed ='s bad choice-bad timing
Good = genious...

Any additional thoughts on all that?
Anyone else hear the announcers talk liek that for drop shots?

...it's like any other questionable play in sports:

example 1: the poke-check in hockey by goalies is amazing if they do it right... discrace if they do it wrong and let in a goal
example 2: you miss an alley-oop in basketball and look silly

...so if a tennis player misses a drop shot, the announcers call it like it is, but if s/he does it correctly, that player's a genieous!!!

Well, partially. The shot's intent can be genious, it is all a matter of timing and your positions in the court. A lot of times I feel it is the best shot choice if it is executed correctly or not.
