...you can't really apply the nickname "the dominator" to Dominik Hasek these days... he was all set to retire at the end of last season, and behold, he is still in between the pipes.

What about this offseason?

Maybe not, because he wants to play in the 2002 Olympics.... this guy may be sticking around for a while after all!... here's the article that fueled me to post this thread... click here (from cbc.ca) (http://cbc.ca/cgi-bin/templates/sportsView.cgi?/news/2001/01/25/Sports/hasek010125).

I forget the exact numbers, but I'm sure it's something like 90% of all Hockey Hall of Fame'ers have won the Stanley Cup at least once... Hasek never has, but the Sabres will definitly be contenders in 2002, if he stays... with the guys running the Hall, not letting Dale Hawerchuk in (oops... did I mention that :p), who knows if Hasek ever will if he doesn't win the Cup?

What should he do?

I think he should stay and try to win a cup to increase his chances of making the hall.

My opinion is that Dominik should stay as long as he actually helps his team's chances. If he is no longer to play to the level of other players and new, younger players are more deserving, he should retire.

Well, he can certainly still help the team... just that he was going to retire after last year when he was still on top of things.... however, he had a nagging injury and didn't want to go out like that... now, he should just stay on for a few more good years...

If the Sabres ever get their captain signed, Mike Peca, they'll be right where they were in '99 -- playing for the Stanley Cup in June.
