so after years of flirting with other jobs and months of saying he was staying at Miami, Butch Davis apparently finally received the offer he was looking for and bolted to Cleveland. The question is can he be successful there? And what does everyone think of Davis? In a time when a lot of high school players are going back on their word by changing their college commitments, what kind of example are coaches like Davis setting when they say they're going to stay at a school, only to jump for a better offer?
I was surprised at this, especially after he signed a contract extension and said he wasn't leaving.
You're right about how it doesn't set a good example to his players by bolting, but then again, him leaving anytime would also be considered a bad example, he has to do what he feels is best for him and his family.
I think it's pretty tough to hold him accountable for what he says to players. It's his job to recruit them, if they don't realize that any coaching position is tenuous, then that's what you get. He made a business decision that pretty much sets him up for life. This example has been set for as long as coaches have been getting 7 figure salaries.
