View Full Version : Soriano or Vidro at 2nd?
This is in my other fantasy team, a rotisserie Y! public league...
I have two solid 2B on my team in Alfonso Soriano and Jose Vidro. Soriano has really cooled off and I need to unload one of my two 2B for an OF. Who would you hold on to? Obviously, Soriano has been the top fantasy player numbers-wise, but that may not last. I'm afraid to trade Soriano if he rebounds later on. What do you think? Would I be okay to stay with Vidro?

I have Vidro on my team.... "and that's all I have to say about that." -- Forrest Gump
:D -- sorry, not much input on this subject :)

Either way you're sitting good. I'd look at it this way, if you have a strong team all around, trade Vidro and keep Soriano, because, even though I'm not a Soriano fan, he's a 5 tool stud when he's not missing the ball, and since OBP isn't a fantasy category in most cases. But if you want to make a signifigant upgrade to a position in a trade, keep Vidro, because Soriano will bring more in a trade. Like I said though, you won't be hurting much either way, the only thing that Vidro doesn't do that Soriano does is steal bases frequently and he may not get as many runs with a bit better batting average.

I watched the TOR/MTL game.... how's this: Vidro has like 42 or 46 RBIs batting in the #2 spot in the line-up... that's in the NL which makes it excellent 'cuz u have the pitcher just 2 batters behind you.
Thanks, as I said in my other league, I'm deep with both these guys at 2B and need starting pitching (my top pitcher is Mussina, who has a 10 ERA this week). I just got offered this trade, what do you think?
Burks, Ellis
Clemens, Roger
Morris, Matt
Wells, David
for
(my team)
Mussina, Mike
Thome, Jim
Vidro, Jose
I get some great pitching, but lose my starting 1B and 2B. Luckily, I have Derek Lee to fill-in at 1B, is he good enough to hold that spot? He's been putting up some great numbers this month. And I have Soriano to play 2B.
So should I take that trade or trade Soriano and get even more value?

Personally I don't like that trade, you're giving up three premier players at their spots, while only getting two real good pitchers in the deal, Clemens (Who's ERA has climbed towards 4 lately) and Morris. Wells, while putting up good numbers, is a middle man in a rotation. Burks, well, you could find somebody better on the waiver wire than Burks.
It's not that bad of a proposed deal, however. I would work together w/ the manager and keep that deal on the backburner and focus on just trading Vidro or Soriano for a SP so you'll still have the monster Thome and Mussina, who will have great numbers by season's end. Try a Vidro and Lee for Morris deal. If that doesn't work, depending on what you do, try a Soriano for Morris, or a Vidro for Clemens.

It also depends on what the emphasis is on in the stats. If there's not many pitcher stats, don't worry about it and start both 2Bs if you can (UTL positions).
I took a look at the standings and it's split - five for hitting, five for pitching. I countered his trade with:
Thome
Vidro
Mussina
for
Burrell
Clemens
Morris
Well, the trade was almost instantly accepted. Tell me it wasn't a stupid trade! :P I am counting on Soriano getting his offensive game back, being the lead-off hitter for NYY and leading my team in SBs by a huge margin, I couldn't give him up. Thome is tough to lose, as he leads my team in HRs, but I have some other capable guys so I'm not too worried there.
Clemens has 100+ Ks, so I'm really excited to have he and Morris, who is rumored to be overworked. Burrell is ranked #40 overall in Y!, so I'm happy.

I like Burrell, I picked him up in almost every league as a late round sleeper. He's got the power bat you can plug in. I think it's an alright deal, you shouldn't be too bad off, as long as it helped your pitching.
The first day of results was released and I'm in the middle of the pack. My pitching is doing great I noticed, even without the trade, and I'm lagging behind in HRs and RBIs, but it's only one day, so it isn't very reflective of my team's strengths and weaknesses.

Soriano is the best fantasy 2B there is IMO, I wouldnt trade him for nothing. And hes young, if your in a keeper league thats major quality for years to come.
Unfortunately, it's just a midseason public league. Anyway, I am proud to say I am in first place. :D Soriano has picked up play lately and I'm glad I kept him.

Too bad you can't say the same about the SC league eh Marc?? Not even in a playoff spot. yeesh.
Yep, no kidding here -- I'm just anemic on offense, it seems.
