Reading SC-Lee's post, as well as watching the XFL gave me an idea for this post. Right now, we're going to make up our own "XBA".
We'll keep whichever NBA rules you like, but change some others to make the game more fun to watch and such.
What NBA rules (and other innovate things) would you try to change for our new "XBA"?
For example, I'd want to make each shot from behind half-court count for four points. I'd also think about bringing in a college rule and ejecting a player after 5 fouls, instead of 6. I really think it'd quicken up the pace of games. What would you do?

I think XFL in itself is stupid and would never support a similar league for basketball.
If you want to get "extreme", let's eliminate the illegal defense and allow zones...

To help quicken up the game what I would do is institute that international rule of whenever there's a non-shooting foul called or if a whistle blows when a player turns the ball over, the team who has the ball can just inbound the ball without waiting for the referee to set everything up.
This will help reduce the amount of time players have to argue a call they disagree with. Because if they argue before they know it, the ball's already in play again and their man is scoring a layup or something.

How about eliminating the goaltending rule?... but then I guess you could have players hanging on the rim to stop the ball...

XBA sounds intriguing.....
I like the zone defense rule....
Maybe a spectacular dunk can be worth three points if the referee believes it is good enough...
Or, flagrant fouls are encouraged...
Or, maybe you can regulate moving picks, so guys can deck someone to free your teammate up...
It's an interesting thought.

That would definately be quite interesting. How about your team get's the ball on technical fouls....

You are to late on suggesting an XBA. A columnist from Fox sports already came up with the idea.

I first saw the article about a week AFTER originally posting that. There's no way I copied the idea from them ... I guess it's just that some people think alike. The differences between the two "XBA"s ... mine was just messing with some rule changes to make the game more in-your-face and exciting. His was an all-out fist fight to make it extreme. It was a pretty good article to read, I must say.
From CPKSports.com (http://www.cpksports.com/The_Story/Commentary/commentary.html), a SC affiliate, I thought this was interesting:
Suggested Rule Changes:
1. Allow zone defense. Why in the world is it illegal? After all, do you actually see one player guard another one player the entire game? No. Zone defense is part of basketball. Let the players play and the coaches coach.
2. Get rid of the three point line. No I am not crazy, but too often players try to take a shot from 22 feet away and quite frankly these guys can't shoot well. I think scoring would go up because more players would shoot the high percentage 15 foot jumper.
3. Raise the basket. That's right. Raise the basket to 12 feet high. I think the problem with basketball on the pro level is it is too easy. Slam dunks are not even exciting anymore because they happen all the time. By raising the basket to 12 feet it might make the players work a little bit harder. Heck, Shaq might even become a decent free throw shooter (well I can hope can't I?).

Marc,
You didn't have to cross post and post the same exact message on two threads. :)
