Wow, What a shock to hear this news!!
I heard today on ESPN radio that Smith will retire from the Minnesota Vikings.
The reason: Too many injuries in his career.
I also heard that Smith wants to go to Law School.
Who is going to run for the Vikings now? Doug Chapman? Moe Williams?

I couldn't believe he retired. He had like the best season of his career. Guess he wanted to end it on a good note.
I'm also shocked. Like Barry Sanders, is Smith leaving prematurely? I could more easily understand his decision if he had just came off a season where he was injured and didn't play well, but he played the best season of his career and for the first time in his career, he played all sixteen games.

I can see why he would. Even though he had a great season, he just had the third knee surgery of his career. That would be enough for me. Then again, a guy like Mark Schlereth has had around 20 knee operations, so it depends on the individual.
Smith has plans for after football as well--he wants to go to law school, or so I've heard (I think someone above mentioned that as well).
His career has been hampered by injury time and time again and I think he just got tired of it.

Actually, apparently it's MED school Smith is possibly interested in, not law school...at least according to what I just read. The point still stands, he's got his eye on something meaningful after football.

Yeah Tom,
I just heard it was Med School too. I heard the other day that I thought it was Law School. I stand corrected!!! :)
