The premiere of the XFL on its exclusive cable home, TNN: THE NATIONAL NETWORK, was a huge success, scoring a 2.4 rating on Sunday, Feb. 11 (4:00 - 7:00 PM, ET), a 336% increase over TNN's typical time period performance in the First Quarter 2001 to date. More than 1.9 million households were tuned in to the debut telecast of XFL on TNN, 335% more than the number of households tuned in during 4:00-7:00 PM, ET, in the First Quarter of 2001 to date. The XFL on TNN was watched by more than 2.9 million viewers, 359% higher than the number of viewers who have watched TNN during the timeslot in the First Quarter 2001 to date. TNN experienced dramatic growth among Adults 18-49, TNN's target audience, which grew 579% for the XFL over this quarter's time period performance to date. "XFL's scored again - this time in its debut on cable," said Diane Robina, General Manager, TNN. "Clearly, the fans want more football, and they find that the XFL feeds their hunger for the sport."

I hate to tell you this, but a 2-something rating isn't too impressive when you compare it with the majority of other shows on TNN, like bullriding or something I've seen. :) The shows in that regular timeslot average a .6 rating, so the XFL obviously was a success when you compare it with TNN's other shows - but that isn't saying much.

And also, I wouldn't be too happy about ratings if I were you. The XFL promised and guaranteed a combined 10.0 rating to advertisers - they delivered only 8.9 total. And in fact, NBC is already angry at the XFL because their Saturday night game went over into SNL's timeslot, lowering their predicted rating of a 10 to a measily 6.

First, for a cable show, a 2 rating is pretty good. Not overwhelming mind you, but pretty good.

Second, the "promised ratings" you refer to is way off. The NBC promised a 4.7 rating to advertisers and has delivered that both weekends. That is on NBC, not TNN, which I referred to.

Take a look at the ratings itself and where the XFL stacked up against other shows. "NBC XFL Football: Chicago at Los Angeles" placed 79th overall with a 4.6 share. This places the XFL, the top sporting event in the ratings, on par with weekday prime-time shows such as "Bette"(4.7), "Futurama" (4.6), "Whose Line is it Anyway?" (4.4), "Two Guys and a Girl" (4.3) and "Norm" (4.2). So what is so wrong with these ratings anyways?

Maybe you ought to come to my site more often and read up on what's going on in the XFL.

No - I said the XFL promised a combined total 10.0 rating to advertisers - that includes TNN, UPN, and NBC. They delivered only a 8.9.

What site do you run?

Show me a source on this. I've been following the goings-on in the XFL for almost a year now and I've never seen anything on a "combined" 10.0 rating. There were promised returns given to each network, but nothing as a "total."

Besides, this makes no sense. How could the XFL promise advertisers on three different networks what their combined ratings would be?

All I know is that the ratings went down from Week # 1. But, that was expected.

The ratings should be in the 3-5 range when everything settles down.

I'll still watch though :)

Ah, okay. We're citing messages posted on wrestling discussion forums as 'fact.' Gotcha.

Just to add my two cents, General Motors conspired to kill JFK, the alleged moon landing was a Cold War propoganda stunt staged by the US Government in a Hollywood lot, and OJ is innocent.

Be sure to quote the above as a legit source, because you saw it posted on a sports discussion board, too...

That site isn't exactly CNN, but it's a lot more reliable and valid than a lot of the other wrestling trash web sites - but I won't get into an argument about that.
