FINALLY -- Bobby Smith has been fired as the General Manager of the Phoenix Coyotes in Wayne Gretzky's first move as the team's owner.
Did they get better in Cliff Fletch -- the man who brought the Leafs down from glory in the mid-90's? I guess we'll see.
Any comments about this? IMO, it was a good move, because I absolutely hated Bobby Smith.
Next up? -- Khabibulin will FINALLY be signed, methinks!
I agree that that Smith needed to be fired... but if they sign Khabibulin, will they trade Burke? Burke is playing too good to be traded... that would be really stupid and i Gretzky hinted at them signing Khabibulin in an interview i saw... i guess we'll see...

I saw that interview also. They need Khabibulin, though... check that -- EVERYONE needs Khabibulin except for a select few teams that already have good goaltending (New Jersey, Toronto, San Jose, Philly, Colorado, and Dallas).
My guess is that if they did sign Khabby this season, they'd probably ease him into the line-up, with Burke playing the majority of games until he gets dead cold.
Burke is what? -- 32?... 33?... If they do sign Khabby this season, you can bet he'll be starting next year for sure... the chances of Burke having TWO All-Star seasons in a ROW are very slim... the last time he was an All-Star besides this past All-Star game was 12 years ago!

 Gretzky and Co are now in control. They've already fired Bobby Smith in favor of Cliff Fletcher. Mr. Gretzky "felt that the team needed a change at this time", although Smith had a 168-136-47-6 record, and did rather well with a limited budget (so the report goes). Gretzky says he had hoped to inform Mr. Smith in person, but he was 'out of town'. Yeah, so? Nepotism (of sorts) in progress guys. I realize things like this happen with a change of ownership, but when one is doing a good job? I mean, they are in a playoff position ... Any comments about the Great One as an owner
