What do you guys think are the best and worst ballparks in MLB? Here are my choices:

Best: PNC Park :D
Worst: Olympic Stadium

Speaking of PNC Park, I have some links for you. :)

I'd have to say Yankee Stadium is best. There's just so much history there. For worst ballpark, I'm not so sure.

Yankee Stadium?! The best?1 I hate that place, it's so run down and crummy, it's just nasty.

My favorite would have to be one of the following three:
Safeco Field
BankOne Ballpark
PacBell Park

Although I haven't had the chance to visit any one of these three, I'd definately like to. Maybe even go out to Seattle to see the All-Star game this year.

Oh, I forgot Bank One Ballpark. That place sounds so cool. I even have a little inside joke about that place with my friends.

And about Yankee stadium, sure it's not the greatest area or anything but it has a very unique atmosphere there.

Yankee Stadium is the best. It's not run down and 'crummy', its a great ball park with a great history, and its still in great shape. I don't care about bells and whistles like newer parks have, Yankee Stadium is the best.

I have been to Yankee Stadium and Fenway Park.

The worst? I really don't know. I'll say Enron.

The worst? I would say either where the Twins play or where the Reds play (Cinergy Field).

Then again, this is an opinion thread. Lets not criticize other's opinions. :)

Yeah... that's gotta be the worst for the players because of the white room... for baseball, it's probably a football player's dream because it's EASY to see a brown football against a white background, but not for the outfielders or hitters!!!

...my favorite is where the Red Sox play... just just a cool design -- "The Green Monster"!!!.. I love the old stadiums and hockey arenas -- each had their own name and characteristic. Now, the names are paid for by billion-dollar companies that sponsor the arena instead of original names, and you don't see any special designs like the Green Monster any more....

...the Mets are getting a new stadium with only the third fully retractable roof (is that what they're called?... the roofs that SkyDome in Toronto and Safeco Field in Seattle have) in the MLB. When will the Mets' new stadium be up and running?????

Wedge231

Probably in a couple of years. Nothing is really certain yet I don't think.

From what I heard, the lack of agreement on funding has stalled the development of a new stadium for the Mets. I think it'll likely be at least three more years until you guys are able to move out of Shea (LaGuardia) Stadium. :) :(

Lee, I believe thats the Pirates new park, which would mean it'd have to be in or around Pittsburgh.

hey Marc, if you hate Cinergy Field, well its goin' down soon anyway. I think they are adding on to it this year, then wrecking in like 2003 or somethin'.

Ha ha!!!... I took that post as Highlite hated SkyDome!... I guess he has to be more specific!

The only MLB stadium I've been in is SkyDome, so I can't really compare, but it's old and empty (most days). In '92 and '93, though, the Jays set the record for most fans in a season... as it $2 million or something like that?... I guess that record is broken by now, though.

Actually, I have been another MLB stadium... kind of... I was at the baseball stadium at Walt Disney World's Wide World of Sports complex, which is the home to the Atlanta Braves' spring training... a nice, small (about 9,000 - 10,000 capacity), intamite stadium.

J_Sinclair
02-21-2001, 09:00 PM
um....yeah......in the skydome the hotdogs are only 0.99& (cheapest hot dogs in any MLB stadium)...but the foot-longs are more money....

I'll have to get back to you on best ballpark.

But I've been to some A's games in Oakland before the Raiders moved back here and the place looked okay back then but now after Al Davis came back and ruined the place I would have to go with the Oakland Coliseum (or as we call it here Network Associates Coliseum. Gotta to love those sponsors *sigh* ) as the worst ballpark in the Majors. The place just looks awful now.

My favorite ballpark is Kaufman Field in KC and my least favorite is Comisky Park in Chicago. Kaufman is perfect for baseball and should be a model for all new ballparks.
Comisky Park is not bad in itself, but it is in a lousy place and there is nothing to do near it. The Metrodome is a close second for the worst park. It is a bad field.
I'm sorry that my first post here is so negative. I'll try to do some positive posting from now on.

How can you talk about the best stadium in the MLB, and NOT mention Fenway Park? Sure is old, but by God, it's go the most history- more than Yankee Stadium, more than the old Tiger Stadium. Fenway Park not only holds lots of history, but is beautiful w/ the Monster, and the BEST place to watch an old fashioned baseball game.

Wedge231
02-27-2001, 07:27 PM
I love Fenway too but I feel that Yankee Stadium still has the most history. They have actually won World Series in the past couple decades ya know....

iFroggy
02-27-2001, 08:11 PM
I will agree that Fenway is one of the most historic parks in the game.

And I will also agree with Wedge. :) The Red Sox have't won a World Series in ages. Its THE CURSE, you know. :)

You think the Green Monster in Fenway Park is beautiful? Check this picture out from PNC Park:

http://parrot.pirateball.com/images/PNC120500B.jpg

Now that's beautiful! :) (But seriously, I've never been to Fenway Park, but I hear it is a special place, and maybe I should visit it before it gets replaced.)

The best has to be Coors field. I mean, that park will be the model of all other parks to come. People were still coming to the park back when we sucked just because of the park itself.

Wedge231
03-28-2001, 06:04 PM
Well Coors doesn't really have much history behind it or anything. Not like the Rockies won any World Series or anything.

roxwschamp
03-28-2001, 06:22 PM
So it takes a World Series victory to be a good ballpark? I think not. Hell, the BoSox havent had a WS title in YEARS. Wrigley field hasnt seen October play in god knows how long. Somuch for that theory, eh?

Wedge231
03-28-2001, 06:57 PM
Yes but the Rockies are just so new. They have no history there. Other parks have been around for more than 50 years.

roxwschamp
03-28-2001, 07:30 PM
Ok, the question wasnt what parks have the most history. It was the best and worst parks. Coors is one of the best, even if they dont have any history. It doesnt matter if a park has history or not. If it sucks it sucks, if it rocks it rocks.

I haven't been to many ball parks, however my favorite is Fenway Park!! "The Green Moster" is awesome.

As for the worst, How can everyone forget Veterans Stadium in Philadlephia!! It's a dump!!! Literally!!! It's a 25 year old stadium that looks like is was made 75 years ago!!

The stadium is awful, the turf is awful and the Phillies are awful!! :)

I have been to 11 MLB ballparks:

Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City
Busch Stadium, St. Louis
Metrodome, Minneapolis
Coors Field, Denver
Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles
Qualcomm Stadium, San Diego
Anaheim Stadium (before the renovations), Anaheim
Wrigley Field, Chicago
County Stadium, Milwaukee
Municipal Stadium, Cleveland
Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg

The best ballpark I've been to: Kauffman Stadium
The worst ballpark I've been to: Tropicana Field

I like the one in toronto its really cool how the roof opens and closes :D..........

SkyDome is nice (actually, because of the new ownership, I think they've changed the name to "Rodgers' Stadium," but whatever...), but it's old... plus Safeco now has a retractable roof and MUCH more modern than SkyDome/Rodgers, so I think Safeco is one of my favs more than SkyDome.....

I agree, although it may not have "history" behind it, it's one of the better parks in the league. I loved going there. I also went to the last three games at Mile High in 94, right before the strike hit. Denver knows how to host a baseball game.

I think I may want to visit Bank One or Safeco sometime in my life because I think they're cool stadiums. I just like Bank One because it's "BOB" though. Oh yeah, Yankee Stadium would be nice too since I only went there once and I was like 3 years old.

I'm still itching to get to PNC Park! So far, the park has an average attendance of 31,000 --- and that's with the really crappy (COLD!) weather during the Astros series and the first game against the Cubs. Outside of the two Astros games that were played, and the first game against the Cubs, there's been attendance of at least 35,000 for each of the other games. (36,500 is considered a sellout.) Now here is a list of things I want to do when I go to PNC Park:

- Park in Downtown Pittsburgh and walk across the Roberto Clemente bridge to the park.
- Walk around the park taking pictures.
- Buy a Primanti sandwich and a big drink before taking my seat.
- Take some pictures of the Pittsburgh skyline from inside the park.
- Go buy some Quik-It Chicken during the 7th-inning stretch.
- WATCH THE PIRATES WIN! :D
- Set down a rose at the base of Willie Stargell's statue on the way out.
- Take a picture of the statues of Roberto Clemente, Honus Wagner, and Willie Stargell.
- Wander over to the new Hi-Tops bar right next to the park and heckle some Cubs fans. :D
- Have a beer or two and just relax in the shadow of the most beautiful ballpark in America.
- Let the alcohol go through my system before walking back across the Roberto Clemente bridge, back to my car Downtown.
- Go to sleep thinking about the fun I had at the ballgame. :)

I encourage all of you to make a trip to PNC Park within the next year or two. :) GO BUCS!

I read some stuff in ESPN magazine about PNC Park and Miller Park. PNC Park looks really nice. I like small stadiums, I don't like getting upper deck seats in Shea.

There's no question that Olympic Stadium is the worst ballpark to play, the best, I gotta go with my Rock's at Coors, Its a hitters ballpark but thats why Hampton has 2 shutouts there right?

Olympic Stadium in Montreal?... Yeah.. that thing is pathetic!!... I'm not even sure if they've completed paying for it, and it was built for the '74 Olympics!!!!!!... actually, come to think of it, I think they did finish paying for it... two years ago or so.. that whole Olympics was a downer on Montreal's and Quebec's economy.

...or are you talking Olympic Stadium in Atlanta?... I think they renamed that, though, so that couldn't have been it.

I still gotta go with Coors, but what about Kauffman? Its a great hitters park, it's not huge, and it's awesome! With that big Royals symbol, the fountain, and the grass out in centerfield, it's great, I would love tosee a game there, playing there would be nice too, lol!

Actually, besides the fact that it has a lot of atmosphere and people flock to it just to be there, Wrigley Field is greatly outdated and gross in some respects. However, it is a fun place to go see a ball game.

The worst? I really don't know. I'll say Enron.

I know this was posted a long time ago, but I have to say that this had to have been written by someone who has never been there or seen it r heard anything about it (iFroggy). It is a really amazing stadium and is perfect for Houston. It's right on the edge of downtown and has windows out the back to see the sky line. Plus, since the days are so hot in Houston, they keep the roof closed until about the 6th inning and then open it up for a really nice night. And the dimensions make for some fun baseball. Don't worry iFroggy, you'll see it in 2004 during the All-Star game. You'll see our other retractable-roof stadium earlier that year for the Superbowl.

Having attended many games in the Metrodome, I agree with the assessment of its quality as a ballpark. Cinergy field is being replaced and is now just a "makeshift" ballpark. The new one should be something worth seing and I hope to do so in the first few years of its existance.
Best Major League Ballpark? Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City. No bad seats in the park and room for seating if it becomes necessary to expand.
I'm looking forward to seeing Miller Park, too.
I also like Wrigley Field, more for the neighborhood than the park, although there aren't any bad seats there, either.
