"Snip, snip, snip" -- that's the sound of scissors cutting, but how is the CUT in golf determined?... number of players?... storkes away from the leader?? Does it change for tournaments (because there seems to be more golfers in majors and tournaments worth more money, etc.)?

I've never figured this out -- how the cut is determined. Would someone please tell me about the players removed from the tournament just before "moving day, Saturday"???

Thanks!

I believe the cut varies from tournament to tournament. What usually happens is that they will say something like anyone within 10 strokes of the leader or 80 golfers. So if the number of golfers within 10 strokes is less then 80, they will take the next best scoring golfers until they have a total of 80 golfers.

I am almost certain. :)

Hey,

I think Patrick has it right, but I also this it has something to do with prize money. They already have the figures for each position figured out. So then they can say the proze money expands to..ugh 75 players. So they have to determine a cut which would get rid of the other 125 players..I've never heard exactly how they do it, but I do remember tournaments where the projected cut kept on fluctuating.
