These kind of players are what is plaguing sports.

From ESPN.com (http://espn.go.com/mlb/news/2001/0223/1104597.html):
TUCSON, Ariz. – The Big Hurt feels a bit slighted. He wants a raise and he's willing to sit out to make his point.

Frank Thomas, slated to make $9.9 million this season, skipped the his third straight workout with the Chicago White Sox on Friday.
C'mon! Is $10 million NOT enough? This is absurd.

This really shocks me. I always thought of Frank as a respectable athlete, in it for the game. This is really dissapointing... :(

But then again, with ARod's recent humungous contract, maybe many are feeling left out. Frank is the backbone of the Sox, but it is still no excuse.

I just don't get it :(

Yeah. I am disappointed too. I thought Thomas was much different. Oh well. More greedy athletes...

Yeah, I'm kinda shocked he did that. $9.9 is great for what he does by today's standards. I understand what he is saying but by the scale of signings these days, in my opinion, regardless of what he did last year, he is paid fairly.

What can I say... I am suprised. :)

come on... he want $100,000 more!?... really -- what difference will that make to him?

I would *kind of* understand if his contract was up, but from reading the first post in this thread by Marc, it appears that this is an ILLEGAL hold out.

I don't understand -- if you sign a contract, you play for that amount... YOU SIGNED IT, so it's YOUR FAULT if you don't like the deal... guys like this guy and Alexei Yashin (NHL) should be banned from the league... even the Players Association didn't want to fight for Yashin when he was in his illegal holdout....

Well, Thomas returned to Spring Training and apologized to baseball and its fans. He finally realized (I wish I could have hit him upside the head with a brick to show him the error of his way :D) that it is players like that who hurt baseball and make it's fan base dissapear. Thanks for wising up Frank...too bad it took you so long!

Oh. Cool. Let's hope other players get like him and stop requesting ridiculous contracts.

Just thought I'd say I agree and I am glad he came to his senses.
