Q: Many years ago there was a hockey player killed on the ice, I've found some information about Bill Masterson, but I get the impression that he was killed back in the 1960's and I seem to be thinking of one back in the 80's. Can anyone tell me who this was and what actually happened or am I thinking of something else?

First of all, welcome to Sports Central's Message Boards!, and congratulations on your first post here at the hockey forum!
Secondly, I can't think of anyone off hand, but if I do uncover something after I do a bit of research, I will post it up.
Can anyone else help out?

As my memory recalls, Masterton is the only player that has ever died in a hockey game. I forget the actual defination of this: either ON THE ICE literally, or hours later as a result of an injury sustained during a game. I will double check all this.
One interesting note, my cousin won the "Masterton Trophy" in the 70s, the trophy is given in honor of Bill himself.
Cool!Who is ur cousin(full name):D?

Actually I found out from my brother that it was Malarchuck who had his jugular slashed in 1989 that I was thinking of. Thank you guys for all your help though!
No problem, Duffers. Please stick around and don't be afraid to explore the rest of the boards. See you around!

My cousin:
1980 Al MacAdam - Minnesota North Stars
I was mistaken, he won it in 1980, not in the 70s as I had mentioned.
Looks like he is the coach of the the St. John Maple Leafs! Cool it must be fun to have a cousin as a former GOOD hockey player since he had like 500 PTS in 800Games!

Actually, even better...take a look at the site I have listed. He's now a bench coach with the Blackhawks.

This is sorta on topic, sorta off but my oldest brother has really met up with some good athletes. When he used to live in Calgary he'd go work out and meet a lot of athletes. He used to bench press with Jeff Garcia (QB 49ers) and also worked out with Doug Flutie. He also mentioned meeting up with a few NHLers who lived there in the offseason and working out with them. I guess there are rewards for getting up early and going to the gym after all, lol.
