Theo Fleury has checked into a substance-abuse program. This is bad news for the Rangers who are 8 points behind Carolina for the last playoff spot. And with Rcihter out for the year, the Rangers don't have very good chances at all for making the playoffs. A season that was going down hill just got worse. There's always next year I guess.

Has Fleury had a problem like this for awhile. I'm not sure if I recall hearing about Theo and substance problems...
Anyone?

It is supposedly family problems. His family has a history of substance abuse. His father was an alcoholic and his mother was addicted to painkillers.

the answer is only clear to flurey, or sheldon kennedy. He said that the problems he (sheldon kennedy)experienced in the minors under that coach(can`t remember his name right now) were also rumoured to have been a problem for fleury and supposedly joe sakic as well. its no wonder he has a substance abuse problem. he denied ever having a problem with the coach and became very upset when questioned about the abuse allagations in his minor career. when ever anyone experiences sexual or phisical abuse at a young age and has not dealt with the issues , it usually ends up comming out in other forms of self expression( usually negative)lets hope he deals with the issues and makes it back. a lot of young and upcomming players look up to fleury as a great roll model , because of all the odds he had to over come.

Thanks everyone for clarifying I had never heard of anything with Theo or Joe for that matter.

I hope he makes a speedy recovery and will be ready for September come training camp. Team Canada needs him, and so does the New York Rangers, who should (finally) be looking seriously for the playoffs next season. Fleury has much too much talent to give up... he's a great hockey player, and I, as a hockey fan, hopes to see him back in the game very, very soon!!
GOOD LUCK, THEO!!!!!
