As the XFL's television ratings plummet and as doomsayers continue to predict the league's imminent downfall, Michael Keller, the XFL's vice president for football operations, continues to plan the league's future on the field. And one idea he and the XFL are contemplating could supply a dramatic surge of talent next season.

But nothing about the XFL comes without controversy. Of all the things the league has done, from its focus on scantily clad cheerleaders to the use of quirky rules, what Keller and his colleagues are now considering may be the league's most controversial idea of all: signing players out of high school who have not qualified academically for college.
This might actually help the XFL. It might be just the controversial thing the league needs...
