Just as I had predicted a few months ago in another thread on this board, Teemu Selanne was traded from the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. He was the lone player going to the San Jose Sharks. Going the other way is F Jeff Friesen, G Steve Sheilds, and a draft pick.

IMO, this is a fair deal for both sides... it's even.

The Ducks really need a spark, and Friesen can get that spark turned into a fire offensively... obviously, it's too late for this year for the Ducks, but next year and the year after, Frisen will improve greatly.

Also, Steve Sheilds really deserves a chance as starting goaltender. The Ducks can give it to him. What ever happened to Guy Hebert!???... is he still in Anaheim, because on the news reports today, the only other name I heard for goalies for Anaheim was J.S. Giguere.

The Sharks, meanwhile, get the Finnish Flash, Teemu Selanne. Great deal for the playoff run. In 21 career playoff games (or is it 26 playoff games?... that number escapes me right now), Selanne has 13 goals (that 13 goals, I am sure of), so he should be a great addition in the post season. The only downside for the Sharks is that they no longer have a solid back-up. It now has to be Evgenie Nabokov all the way. It may cost them if Nabokov is just a one-year surprise.

Hartley is on his way out, garunteed. The owners are sick of waiting for results. The move to aquire salanie from winnapeg just did not pan out like they hoped, because, they just did not understand how a winning club in the n.h.l is put together. not with "the best tandem in the nhl today" but with a team, thats" team" ,there just now figuring it out. When anahime first was awarded an nhl franchise i became worried, when they named them the "ducks" after the kids movie a became angry and worried . The organization was going to make a mockery of our game. everyone knows the club has a blank check when it comes to available funds. were they going to pour 10 or 20 mil in to the club and by a cup right off the get go? my worries were not justified! they will build like any other club and by the looks of things , are finaly doing the right thing.
as for san jose, well salane is thinking cup which is good for them because he is g.r.e.a.t.. however, goaltending is still suspect. They could use damphouse back too.
why do nhl franchises look to build from the center ice in instead of the other way around? almost every great club in history was anchored by a great goaltender.it is the corner stone of the team.I would hate to think of where my beloved leafs would be without cujo.

...because have you looked at the stats of the Ducks this year!?... They stink! The Selanne-Rucchin-Kariya line just isn't working. The team simply sucks. Maybe there isn't enough room for two superstars. The move was made to make the team a bit younger (Selanne is now 30), and give hope for the future. It's Kariya's team to lead into the playoffs for next season, now.

I think you mean "Criag Hartsburg," and not "Bob Hartley," because Hartley is well on his way to a Jack Adams nominatio for Coach of the Year this year! :)

I'm not absolutely certain of this, but isn't Selane due to become a restricted free agent soon? GMs are starting to rid themselves of older, overpriced, free agents. They're getting rid of them while they can still get quality in return, instead of zilch. GMs are going for younger, and faster (not to mention cheaper) players, building new teams. Personally, I think they are trying to rid themselves of the expensive free agents, to help keep salary costs down. Yeah  I say for them. The NYR may be able to afford all these expensive guys, for all the good it does them, but many teams (not only Canadian) are paying out HUGE salaries for these guys who won't settle for less than mega multi-million deals (inflated egos ,) when there are young, talented players, playing few minutes, sitting on the benches, waiting for a chance to prove themselves, which many do. The 'old' guys have a place, every team needs its vets, but too many on one team is holding the team back from growing and improving.

Guy Hebert is the goalie for the Rangers right now.
