According to the NY Post, Charles Oakley said that 60 percent of the NBA's players smoke marijuana, and that "you have guys playing high every night."

1.) Is that any of our business?

2.) Does anybody really care that Oakley brought up this point?

3.) Should it be a punishable offense in the NBA?

4.) I know it's a free world and all, but why the heck would somebody throw their lives away by spending their time smoking pot?

Not really

Well, the NBA should. After all, it's illegal, isn't it!? At least in Canada.

No. If whaking a guy over the head with a stick (Marty McSorley on Donald Brashear in the NHL) is an offense that has to be settled in the court of law, then CERTAINLY NBA players, or anyone, for that matter, smoking pot should not be a punishable offense by the National Basketball Assosiation, but in the court of law.

I've been wondering the same thing about smoking ciggarettes.

Yeah, people like us can look at people who smoke and do drugs and look how pathetic they are, but some people are just plain ignorant.

I do agree with you guys.

But, lets say someone has been smoking since they were 8 and are now 65. When they started smoking, they didn't know it was bad for you. Now they can't stop, its like an illegal drug. We can't look at these people and think "pathetic."

It is our buisness because we pay them.

Like Rick said, we pay them. We should care. Afterall, NBA players are role-models to millions of kids.

I do, though, think Oakley is correct in the notion that many players smoke pot...maybe not nearly 60%, but enough for the NBA to look into things. I was watching ESPN's The Sports Reporters, and they showed some clips of Vin Baker, and how this season he's, for lack of bettet term, absolutely sucked. He can't run the floor (pot!), can't shoot as well (pot!), all of that.

The NBA needs to clean this image they are creating as drug-taking punks.

They really should test for pot, considering I could point a few players who i would say and put money on who smoke weed. Dale davis seems like a stoner.

Well, it looks like I've actually found some people who might think the war on drugs is a good thing. Why is it your business what someone else does in their spare time? Because "you pay them"? Please, if it bothers you that much, stop doing that. It's not surprising at all that a lot of NBA players smoke pot. It is probably a much better alternative for them than drinking alcohol. It is for me. Sam Perkins is my personal poster boy, although that might just be the way he always looked while playing.
