View Full Version : Best place to coach in college football?
Where do you think is the best place to coach by criteria of climate, fans, and just the overall quality of the program.
Some choices:
Florida State
Michigan
Notre Dame
Florida
Alabama
Nebraska
Ohio State

Notre Dame is a great place to coach over time but one when you first get there it is a tough one.
Look at Davies. He was getting shot @ left and right when he took over now they are loving him.
But I gotta mention "the" Purdue in this thread :).

But the old Purdue teams were good and Joe Tiller has done a outstanding job these past 4 years or turning this team around.
One thing about Purdue is that the fans are great up here. I've lived here most of my life and the team spirit spreads for miles. Even when they stunk, there was almost always a packed stadium.
I would definately say Purdue would be a great place to coach.

I think I would have to say Florida.
My reasoning: all of the others you mention have longstanding traditions of success. This translates into alumni with high (sometimes unreasonable) expectations.
Steve Spurrier is basically Florida's football history. He was a native son, and has been a huge success, but Florida hasn't been in contention for the SEC and National titles every year of his tenure--it just feels like it.
Spurrier's had a margin for error many don't enjoy because the program was in shambles (I think it was the Charley Pell era that left 'em in that state) when he took it over and even though there had been good Gator teams in the past, they didn't have the multiple national titles or prestige of an Alabama, Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State, Nebraska, etc.
Plus there's the fact that that stadium seats 85K, the fans are LOUD, and the weather's great.
