Is bowling a sport? I do not think so. I do not think it is because it requires no real atheletic ability. What about Nascar?

Yes, I believe Bowling is a sport. You are competeing, it requires skill, and you are physically doing something.
By definition, "sport" is defined as:
1. An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively.
2. An active pastime; recreation.
So, technically, there are at least two distinct forms of "sports". You have mainly physical ones like basketball, football, baseball, etc. Then, you have less physical, more mental competition like bowling, pool, and even golf to a degree.

However Golf is way more physical then Pool or Bowling. Even if you ride in a cart! :)

Okay, Patrick! -- we've already been down that path before!!... let's not get into that argument again :)
...is it true that there's no such thing as 5-pin bowling in the states!?... only 10-pin?... has anyone from America ever gone up here to Canada to bowl only to find alleys with BOTH 5-pin and 10-pin lanes!?... he he -- my American friends thought I was crazy when I told them about 5-pin bowling! :)

I would call Bowling a recreational activity. It doesn't require a whole lot of strength at all.
Before anyone says something, Golf does. Just look at Tiger. He can kill the ball and he is also winning more as a result.
I am not sure about NASCAR, I would say so plus keep in mind they are putting their lives on the line in that sport.

Lee, what discussion? Golf requires much more, even if your riding a cart.
And yes, Tiger is strong, golf also calls for coordination and balance.

Bowling is more of just something fun to do. I was in a bowling league for a couple of years, not much real competition. Nobody bowls and really ever keeps scores outside the pros and regular leagues. Most people just bowl for fun I think.

We have had this discussion many times in our home, and we have come to this conclusion. Bowling is not a sport!Because you are able to drink beer and stuff your face while doing it! Its simply a recreational activity.
