Rangers Vs Islanders
We're talking about New York here. Both teams have been facing each other numerous times every season with the Islanders winning most of them no matter how bad their team is. I live here on Long Island in "Islander Country". Luckily, they're so bad this year that they only have a handful of fans. I love the Rangers so that's good for me.
I have never seen them play each other. Only hockey game I ever saw was Islanders Vs Canadiens with Canadiens winning.

Sorry, Chris -- I almost forgot that there WAS a team on Long Island for the Rangers to have a rivalry with! :)
...but now that I do remember there is a team out there called the "Islanders," I can almost certainly tell you that that is not the most heated rivalry.
Right now in the Western Conference, it's gotta be either Dallas vs. Detroit, Colorado vs. Detroit, or Colorado vs. Dallas -- those three teams have had bad blood thrown between each other in the past three years -- Colorado and Dallas have met in the conference finals in the past two years... both series have gone to seven games; Colorado and Detroit have great regular season matchups and often meet in the semi-finals... those match-ups are great because the goalies often throw the gloves! :) ; Detroit vs. Dallas is just a classic Western rivalry of two teams going all the way with each other at any price.
In the East, it's probably either the traditional rivalry of Toronto vs. Montreal or, since Montreal is really not much competition anymore, Toronto vs. Buffalo -- I've watched 3 games on TV this year between Toronto and Buffalo... all 3 have been classic Eastern Confernce-type games: defensive.. however, at points, you would think you're watching a Western Conference game where there's A LOT of flow to it -- back and forth and back and forth, meaning scoring chance and scoring chance and save after save after save.

LOL. Here in NY, hockey has gotten very boring. Time to stay up late for those west coast games.

Montreal vs Toronto is definatley one of the most "historic" rivalries.
However, Colorado vs Detroi is probably the most heated. Who could ever forget when Roy and Osgood met @ center ice for a little fighting action while the rest of the benches were killing each other everywhere.

the old norris had sopme great rivleries, i remember the red wings ,had, at one time , probert, when he was a physical threat, stew "the grim reaper" grimson and mike paluso. not only on the same team , but on the same line. man everyone hated that line. , they should have called it the "death" line.wendle clark took a lot of skin of his knuckles and chin from bobby.the hawks had cummings ,and cam russel, .i also remember a game against the hawks where our own nick kipreos took an elbo from cummings and got his nose broken on a really dirty play, he had it rebroken (2)two more times in the same game. i gained a lot of respedt for that man that night.tough guy. he turned out to be a great broadcaster too.i miss the old devisional matchups.never mind the original six, even i'm not old enough to remember that far back.in the future i'm going to post a thread on why they changed the names, took away great honours in that move.smyth, patrick, norris and adams are all dishonoured, how does that happen? its like putting someone in the hall of fame and then finding a way to take them out, for money. thats the bottom line.i guess i don't need to start that thread now.
